How do you execute a swim move?

I have some luck using power which is mostly a rip move
seems that bull rush and swim moves are missing.

Can someone give a clear breakdown on pass rush moves & how to execute them in madden 17.
The Spin, swim, bull rush, etc are player TRAITS. So you'd actually need to upgrade the trait with XP for the player to trigger the other moves.
So, for your finesse move player and hitting X to get the spin- that is what the cpu thinks is the best move to try and your player has the spin move trait.

As far as manually rushing, I you are limited to Square or X on the PS4. What move the player tries is tied to what the CPU picks & that player's trait upgrades.

The only other things you can do when rushing is:
to try to jump the snap tapping R2
use the left stick to move left/right to disengage with the blocker.

A lot of people ignore player traits outside of big hitter on defense, but upgrading certain traits are very important in some areas.

Re-posting since I never got an answer.

Adding to it, what is the difference between play recognition and awareness?

Is the X/Square button useless in this game? Apart from using to chase down a ball carrier from behind, seems so.

Also, how in the hell are you supposed to stop the run in this game? Particularly the outside run. CPU is WAY too good on default All-Pro. It's absurd. Denard Robinson should not be breaking 5 tackles for an 80-yard TD. Too many big plays. Not realistic. Incredibly frustrating. Back in the day on the older NCAA and Madden games, the CPU was lucky to even go positive in rushing yards against me.

Play recognition I think is more important than awareness. Supposedly AWR affects the player in all aspects of his play. PRC is how quickly they identify what play the offense is running.
So, think of plays with fakes or things like play action passes. This affects how quickly the player makes the correct reaction or low PRC would lead to them being fooled for a longer period of time. I always like the AWR above 70 but at times last madden I'd see DBs with bad AWR make great plays.
It's more useful IMO for OLinemen on offense.
Also when you user a player- the awareness rating doesn't matter. So there's no need for it for QB, HB or players you are going have control of.
