Yes, totally needs to happen!! I can't believe how fun MyGM was for 2K16 when PS4 gave it away for free! Drafting is now big too, as you get the OVR and all the stats but what badges you get is also fun to see. The weapons from M7 to M9 was good for identifying who on the field had a high attribute but didn't make a player play differently like badges do in 2K.
In saying that then, if they do bring badges to M18, they need to overhaul scouting. We need scouting reports that hint at the style of player but also hint at the types of badges they might have.
Say for instance we have want to draft a “power back”, the difference in the real NFL between powerbacks is the ability to break tackles up the middle, so for activating that “Super-truck/Super Stiff-arm animation” that AP/Beastmode does irl (instead of having a cap on attributes for different moves) you might see the scouting report say things like:
“Often gets low to break some tackles” – Bronze Bruiser Badge – Super truck one-one-one up the middle, countered by “Sure tackler” badge.
“Gets low with good pad level to break a lot of tackles” – Silver Bruiser Badge – Super truck double tackles up the middle, countered by “Sure tackler” badge.
“Amazing pad level will break many tackles” – Gold Bruiser Badge – Super truck gang tackles up the middle, countered by “Sure tackler” badge.
And make badges applicable across different players, so a HB might have a run blocking badge, or an undersized OL have a Catching badge, you might consider moving them to FB or TE respectively. Or put them in in certain sub-formations.
Also, if you implement a full coaching carousel with scouts, then the scout grade can have a better chance of properly identifying the badges of a player. So a really good scout can spot gems easier by spotting the badges, or spot the badges which could mean the player could be moved positions (like a DL with OL badges…). Bad scouts will miss badges and therefore not spot gems. The Badge system also needs bad badges (poor work ethic, poor team chemistry, poor morale, gives up on players, injury prone, lacks toughness etc) so that a scout missing a bad badge can also cause a player to bust. It puts a real premium on good scouts or coaches/GMs with good scout ratings.
Badges would be included in adding up a players value in free agency or with a trade too. Or deduct from a players value if they are negative badges. Would impact the type or amount of contract for resigning too.

Couldn't agree more. I'd love to see some Dline badges that would allow guys like Donald and Watt to blast through double teams and create havoc.
Badges give you the ability to separate players in ways attributes can't.
EDIT** Honestly one of the big reasons I can't wait for 2k to make another football game.
