There's a reason it's been copied by every other game out there.

So, if Franchise is ever going to get monetization, it will likely be packs. Whether that be opening packs for new uniforms and player equipment, or opening packs for XP and progression trait boosts, it'll be packs of some sort.
exactly right, it's christmas and your birthday videogame style

In fact, (and I know this is a sore subject, but it is what it is) when I was pitching stuff in our first and only feedback meeting for the Montana game (back when it was still being developed as a simulation game) I pitched that there should be an owner mode, but not how it's ran today.

In real life, owners don't have to really worry about losing money. Those franchises make money hand over fist, and that's why they sell for as much as they do. Instead of worrying about making money in an owner mode to stay in the black, I pitched to make money so that you could buy new uniform designs that you would create yourself, new parts to your stadium that you could visibly see in-game, new "futuristic" player equipment, and so on.

I think it would be cool if, in Madden, you made money to buy packs to unlock all that sort of stuff. Would be a fun meta-game that could potentially keep people more interested in playing through their Franchise, and it would add the possibility for microtransactions, if people were too impatient to earn the money in-game.

I mean, think about it... all these games that make a ton of digital revenue for new "skins" for characters. I think they could make big money off of uniforms and tattoo packs... things of that nature. Especially if you were to incorporate this into a solo player career mode. Buying new things to customize your character and whatnot.

2k haven't gone the card route in My GM, I'm not 100% sure they have to clone MUT in franchise mode to make it financially beneficial.

How to monetize CFM

There should always be the option of a free CFM (What we have now, but for those that play in leagues, want to earn some money, or want to advance quicker, here are some options.

When starting a franchise, it should be an option before you start so you can select what kind of league you want if you want to use real money.

Monetized Items for Franchise

XP- I don't know why you would want this for a solo CFM since you can edit players anyways. However, XP should be available for purchase.

Finances/ Salary Cap- Use real money to buy real funds in madden for free agency, stadium upgrades, or team relocation. This could work decently for an online league if you have a team that doesn't have much salary cap or money in general.

Scouting Points- This would work nice if you were in an online league, and you wanted to get an edge on some friends you're playing

Award winnings- Similar to fantasy football. Each team pays into the league for $XX amount of dollars. The winner of the Super Bowl/ division/ conference gets a certain percentage while EA/ Madden receives another percentage. If the CPU wins, then no one wins the money and it goes back to the Users for another season, or EA keeps it.

Fantasy Draft- A league where you start a fantasy draft with a bidding type system. Say each person pays $10 to enter into the league, each player is given "1,000 points" to bid on certain players that show up.
So positions will show up randomly, and you big accordingly. Once you burn up all of your points, then the CPU will just assign you players similar to how it does for draft champions.
You could even throw legendary players in there for a higher value if need be.

There are tons of ways EA could monetize franchise mode, and I am very surprised they haven't already.

I would still prefer to play a solo and free offline franchise mode. However if EA found a way to make money off of CFM, I have a feeling they would be more inclined to make real additions to the mode, and we can avoid what is happening with Madden 18.

I have no clue how much 2K makes off of VC purchases in MyGM, but I never hear anyone talking about it, so that leads me to believe it's a fraction of their MyTeam mode.

Again, the most proven method of making digital revenue on Consoles and PC are card packs and loot boxes. Both offer the element of surprise. You could buy 10 packs and only 3 packs have anything worthwhile, but they'll keep buying them because it's about more than the odds, it's about the feeling you get when you open those things.

The key is getting consumers to foolishly spend money, even when they know the odds are heavily against them. That's how they make so much. Casinos thrive off of it.

For 2K I spend a good bit of coin on MyPlayer upgrades.

Yeah, I can definitely see MyPlayer being closer than MyGM to packs. I don't think either of them come close to the packs revenue, though, especially with how popular the youtube videos of pack openings are. Spreads the desire to buy packs even farther.

Yeah, I agree. I got into MUT about three years ago. Last year I was really hardcore into it. I don't spend much money though on it. I think maybe like $10 the whole year. You really can enjoy it without spending any money. Everyone seems to think it's a huge money sink but not really, it's just optional.

Most of my packs I've bought have been when there is a sale and it's late at night and I just figure, oh why not, what's a few bucks. But it's not how I built my team by any means.
