Madden NFL 20 Impressions (EA Access / Launch, All Platforms)

Ok. I admit it. I may have made a mistake trying to play all-madden with slider tweaks for madden 20. Lol. I still haven’t thrown my controller through my beautiful 55 inch hdr 4K tv, but it’s been close. Lol. I have adjusted the hell out of sliders, also, btw, but as has been an issue for years, there is just something magically cheating about all-madden no matter the tweaks. And, it’s just the little things. It’s just so strange. I feel like the game is going ok, there’s some back and forth, and then I realize I’m down by 21 at the end of the first half. Lol. And, of course, most of the scoring was at the end of the half. Usually, I throw a BS INT to a wide open Julio Jones or something.

But, man, oh man, I just had another doozy. Played the Jags, and went down 21, as I mentioned above. I just couldn’t open up my offense. My D was good and bad at times, but legit, gave up a completely bs all-madden style garbage TD where a wr broke several tackles even though I changed to conservative tackling because they were breaking tackles early.

But, just as all-madden cheats for the cpu, sometimes it cheats for u, too. Lol. So, I get a nice INT for TD to get closer. Then, they march the ball down the field on me, but I get a sack, fumble, and return that for a TD. Lol. All with the same player, actually, because I got a random triumph for that, which was cool. .

But, in the end, I couldn’t get one more score to either tie or win it. With about 1min left and no TOs, I go deep to Julio and Jalen Ramsey outjumps him. It was fair enough, and I think Ramsey was in the zone, actually. But, the way the game was going, I felt I had to go to Julio.

And, while this may sound like a great, fun, back and forth game, it’s just not. All-madden is just so quirky. No matter the sliders, no matter the play calling, it’s like the cpu just always gets a 21 pt advantage, and it’s all comeback at that point. Idk, I’m a long time player, and never liked all-madden, but this game plays different, and I’m hoping to perfect the challenge of all-madden with the realism of football by tweaking sliders with it. While I’ve always enjoyed all-pro sliders, they always end up being just a bit too easy.

To be fair, this year’s atl offensive playbook is HOT GARBAGE!!! Lol. I hope I’m not the only dirty bird that feels this way. I mastered 19’s playbook and utilized so many different formations to put a real scheme together mixing stretch runs with inside FB lead block runs, and single back 2 TE formations for multiple looks. I mixed in PA from time to time. But, man, I am telling u, Anthony White removed EVERY SINGLE IMPORTANT PLAY OR ENTIRE FORMATION I used in 19. Lol.

And, while u can often find similar plays in another formation, it’s just not the same. I really had stuff organized mentally and had perfected certain route/play combos. But, seriously, this new playbook is really missing some basic stuff that I really liked, and specifically, it has zero stretch plays. Maybe Koetter isn’t going to run stretch plays or something, but this has been the hardest playbook adjustment I’ve ever had. Lol.

Otherwise, I’m still enjoying the gameplay. This really is the best playing madden in quite some time. The proper game speed mixed with the pass trajectories is great. And, it’s still taking some adjustment period for me, being able to throw over the middle over a LB when u still think it might be an INT. And, as much as I’m a fan of realistic pass rush timing, holy hell, man, sometimes it does feel like BS. lol. And, on default all-madden, it is BS, actually. You’ll see avg cpu players rip through double teams like it ain’t no thang. While, every single one of your Dline gets stonewalled. This is where I’m really tweaking sliders heavy. I’ve got cpu pass blocking down to 33 right now. Lol. And, I’m still only getting 2-3 sacks and my players still get blocked hardcore. But, it is better than default. I’ve upped my pass blocking to 65. Lol. And, I’m still taking quick sacks. So, it is what it is. Just wanted to rant some as I’ve almost finished my first season of CFM that I will dismiss once reg season roster come out and I start a new CFM. This is my test CFM for sliders adjustment, anyways, I guess. But, I’m 6-9 right now. Lol. I’ve never finished a season that poorly. And, while I’m all for realism and challenge, there’s been some bs in some of these games that just makes it hard to take. And, while I’m 6-9, Julio has like 140 receptions for 2000 yards. Lol. Ryan has 5,500 yards and has had some 500 yard games as I haven’t been able to run the ball at all in all-madden and I also had my original clock settings a little high so I was getting too many plays per game. But, still, those 2 having baller years, and I’m getting creamed in some of these games. Lol.

I'm hoping maybe by the year 2050 EA will figure out how to code player AI to cover a TE. Not even close once again.

And the ridiculous NFL blitz hitting causing five fumbles a game is just a killer. This game could be awesome but there are so many things that kills the fun of it. I feel cheated in almost every game, like I have to beat lottery odds for it to play like an even contest.

In the last five games I have 12 fumbles and have had two FGs and two punts blocked. Give me a break EA.

I’m having serious fun with this game and am able to overlook most things wrong but the cpu game management is really starting to get to me.

It’s a constant head scratcher.

Last game the cpu had a 5 point lead with the ball on my 27 yard line under 2 minutes left and I have 2 timeouts. Phillip Lindsay had 165 yards rushing with 2 touchdowns. They pass the ball every down and it results in me getting the ball back with 48 seconds left and I almost beat them. It was cray Z.

In general the CPU refuses to run when it should.

I like the game a lot but like most have said, the AI is a joke. This game is strictly a user vs user game. It’s a shame that the AI is better in the PS2 Madden games.

Bucs (user) against Steelers (CPU)

They didn’t go to JuJu at all even though he was X factor. Thought CPU used them a lot?

CPU robo QB in full effect. Big Ben went 11-12. Rudolph went 21-23. All default sliders

I need more time on defense to hit route.

CPU still goes after their TE a lot. Always their leading receiver

Game was fun for most part.

Baffles me how people think they are tweaking and working on game for franchise players. How many years of same bull**** do people need to see to wake up and not buy game. Only way EA will ever think of making franchise better , especially AI. User vs user is totally different experience, that is why you do not hear people bitching about online as much. I'm glad I broke the mold of not falling for EA propaganda and did not purchase 20. Less sales is only way this trend will stop. Have fun with all the patches incoming throughout the year, sliders are pointless because of this.

I havent play a Madden game in 5 years because every year the game felt the same with a new gimmick. Is this years game worth getting if you want to play franchise and occasionally play people online?
