It is a forum isn't it. By your logic, any positive comments should not be on the forum because there is no "evidence that it actually makes a difference to how EA decides to make the game".

So I guess just close down OS right?

And if people stop commenting, either positive or with criticism, then there is really NO chance of making a difference. Once you quit, you have no chance.

Re: Madden Review by Chicago Tribune writer

I want to love Madden 20. But 2/3rds of the game is broken. Zone defense is a wreck and special teams are broken for many users with the disappearing kick meter. It's a fun game when it works right. But I'm constantly reminded that it has a ton of flaws. The writer of the review voices many of my same concerns and feelings. Call it nostalgia if you want but previous games were more well rounded and felt like a total package. Now it's a relatively bare bones franchise and MUT. Deuce Douglas did a great breakdown on the scenario engine and it is really shallow. Hopefully it can be tweaked and added to to make it a worthwhile feature.

Let's spell it out: if we accept from your post that A - the NFL license buoys Madden's popularity (extremely likely) and B - Madden has no competition for sales / eyeballs / influence / microtransactions in the console video game space (objectively false, but let's go with it for a moment) and thus its popularity cannot significantly decline, then what you present here is openly supporting my point.

You're arguing Madden can't drop in popularity due to external factors, and I'm arguing Madden isn't dropping in popularity based on data (hat tip to TheOncomingStorm for more data supporting this). So we agree, then, and there is no logical flaw in my argument.
I’m sorry I wasn’t clear. I wasn’t pointing to a logical flaw in YOUR post, just one commonly made.

As for the one regarding competition, it is NOT false, within a certain market niche tolerance. Madden can overall be of lower quality than another sports game or game in another genre and still equal it in sells. Madden can price itself out of its NFL license buffer zone, but assuming it remains available only at, say $30 above the going rate for most games, while keeping an option for some people to purchase it at the going rate for other games, it can do exceptionally well. Other games simply cannot get away with what Madden is able to do, and it is entirely because of how the NFL and NFLPA license affects what Madden is competing with.

You were responding to my post, though, which was very much dependent upon the “what if.” Afterall, what I said was that due to the licenses, Madden has a market buffer zone that protects it from dropping in sales and popularity. You then mentioned the Madden brand name, and all I did was make the claim that Madden without the NFL is nothing if there is another NFL game. That seems to be the logical conclusion of the direction of the discussion, given where my first post started, so I don’t see how adding a discussion parameter that forbids that particular “what if” makes much sense.

Also, I don’t know if I said it in my post. But I’m quite enjoying this years Madden so far. Aside from several PC only bugs and some are Origin client possibly. But other than that, the gameplay this year is fun. By the article isn’t wrong or right. And sales numbers are meaningless when your the only game in town.
When Frosty comes out and modders get ahold of it, most of the flaws will be dealt with, and given the gameplay base, the PC version of Madden 20 is probably going to be a memorable game. I just hope that modders will be able to penetrate some of the more Franchise-centric things. I’ll certainly do my part of digging through the game’s files, but most of my PC modding experience is just visual edits.

Honestly, though, I do feel bad for some of the angry console players, because so many of the current flaws will either be fixed or improved by modders.
