From JoshC's slider thread:

I brought thus up before, but I'm now 100% positive that the driving force to induce CPU QBs to scramble is the position archetype. Basically, if a QB's primary archetype is anything but "scrambler", they will not scramble for yardage. Other archetypes WILL move in the pocket, but they won't take off for yardage.

Basically, a QB has to have "Scrambler" as his top (or tied for the top) archetype on his player card. So basically, if you're trying to get an improviser archetype (Russell Wilson or Dak Prescott) to take off downfield, forget it. He'll move around, but it will invariably lead to a sack, throw, or throwaway. If you edit his ratings (lowering Deep Accuracy while raising Medium Accuracy is an effective means) so his top archetype is "scrambler", he'll actually take off when warranted.

QBs with the sense pressure trait set to paranoid (paired with scrambling) will be more apt to run.

Thank you both for that. I REALLY wanted to avoid adjusting ratings to change their archetype but if the alternative is not playing this game anymore, I'll take it.

Re: What's happened to the CPU scrambling QBs?

So I changed Lamar Jackson's archetype to Scrambler. Changing Mahomes' archetype is a bit more tricky as you're seriously altering his ratings. I might just leave that one be.

Anyways, I'm happy to report that Jackson is now scrambling for yards. I was worried at first that it was just scrambing like any other QB for what he could get and sliding and not being the dynamic runner in the open field he is. Then the 2nd play in this clip happened:

Now THAT's the Lamar Jackson we all know and love and other teams hate.

Thanks again for the suggestions. Now back to my regularly scheduled franchise.

I hadn't played much since the last patch, so I am happy to hear that it still worked. It sucks that we have to go down that path, but at least the option is there for us franchise guys.

And yeah, Mahomes is a tough case (so is Russ) to edit. But usually guys like Cam, Murray, Trubisky, Watson, Mariota, are fairly straightforward to edit up to the scrambling archetype.

I'm seeing plenty. Trubisky complete killed me on the ground my last game.

For what it's worth, being a live-and-breathe Chiefs fan, Mahomes isn't as much of a "take off and run" scrambler as people think. He's mobile as hell, but he's absolutely a "scramble to pass" guy...he's not as likely as Wilson or Trubisky to take off for the sticks, and of course Jackson's on another level entirely as a runner.

In 2018, Mahomes had 60 rushes for 272 and 2 TDs. In 2019, it was down to 43 for 218 and 2 TDs. Some of that was missed time due to the knee injury and his bad ankle early in the year, some of it was due to the staff cutting way down on options...we ran more speed options last year than we did this year even before he got banged up. He also went through a period in roughly weeks 9-13 where he wasn't trusting the line, and got a small case of Alex Smith Happy Feet Syndrome...a lot of his season rushing yards came during that period if you look at per-game stats.

He doesn't run or scramble nearly as much as Smith did within the same offense. He obviously WILL take off...we all saw him against the Texans...but getting Jackson, Wilson, and company to scramble more is more important than getting Mahomes to do it, IMO.

If you change the archetype to scrambler does it automatically change them from balanced/pocket passer to scrambler in their traits? I don't see why the archetype would make a difference otherwise.

Add my voice to this list.

In my offline franchise (with the latest update in place), Trubisky is now the Broncos QB.
I played Denver and Arizona in back-to-back weeks, and both Trubisky and Kyler Murray were running consistently (I think Murray had more yards on the ground than he did through the air).
