Lack of penalties

The average number of penalties is around 6 per game. I play with 15 minute quarters and I have never seen more than 4 and most of those are false starts. There were a little under 2 holding calls per game on average and I havent seen one called at all while playing 22.

So if EA is basing them on "NFL data", the data they have in the game is wrong. There is no way I shouldnt see one holding call in 8-10 games especially when I'm playing preseason games where backups (who tend to be more undisciplined).

Furthermore, EA confirmed on their forums that a portion of their fan base doesnt like penalties. They do the same thing with FIFA (which has struggled with fouls for decades) because that fan base doesnt like a ton of fouls.

Its obvious what they are doing. The bottom line is if you have sliders in the game....they should work. If I want damn near every play to be a penalty and i max out the sliders, let me do it. Why should the way I play be affected by how other players play the game? Especially when its offline.

The long time limited effectiveness of penalty sliders is a design decision that I just will never understand. In a way I feel like they're being paternalistic in that they are afraid to let the User "break" their gameplay experience too much. It like they're saying, "now, now we know that you don't really want to occasionally have games with 15 or 16 penalties, so we'll just prevent you from tuning the game that way." They need to abandon that mentality.

This is the type of thing where I would think the gameplay type (simulation, arcade, comp) would come into play.

You would think so, right?

I'm hoping its a bug but again the PC version has allowed us to look under the hood a bit and the penalty settings have always been low on default on sim gameplay.

This right here is all that matters imo. I may not agree with their thought process, but I do understand it. If they believe that a large group of players do not like penalties in their game then I understand that they would want to lower the frequency. I just can't understand how they have sliders that either don't work at all, or don't work enough.

Pass and run blocking barely work at all for the last 2 Madden's
Fumble slider is pretty much useless because it doesn't factor in hit stick fumbles (which have become pretty much the main way to fumble in madden now.. which is also insane).
QB accuracy works to a certain extent; lowering it does create more inaccurate passes, however those inaccurate passes are either EXTREMELY errant passes or they just go straight to the nearest defender & there is no in-between with that.
Injury & Fatigue both have minds of their own.

If they could at the very least fix the sliders and how effective they are, then the true sim community would be able to create a game that somewhat resembles football. I just wish they'd make the game more realistic from the start and then if people want an arcade/competitive type of game they can choose that setting (as it should've been to begin with) or change the sliders.

But, if what Swami said is true and they do have a plan to fix whatever slider bug there is then that will help tremendously. If they actually do fix it properly.

My issue is the lack of offensive holding calls. It's one of the things that kills immersion and why every game, roster, franchise feels the same. If I have a bad o-line, I should be seeing a ton of pressure and/or a lot of holding calls.

I will try to edit the disciplined trait tomorrow and see if that helps.

It doesnt. At least in franchise. Multiple people (including me) have tried it and no change.

It’s so odd….I’ve played 8 games. All the penalties (maybe 5 a game) on me. Not ONE on the counplayers 🤷*♂️
