Proposed playcalling system fo '11

I was just thinking the other day while playing my franchise, this is repetitive and boring. but how do you spice things up as far as offline franchise?

Then I had this idea about the benefits of practicing during the week. Every team has a base playbook of 16 plays or so. They can run these any time during a game. If during practices, your team runs additional plays in the playbook, some sort of confidence meter will allow the play to be used in the actual game.

If you choose not to practice, you only get those first basic plays that the opposing defense would get wise to. The more you practice, the more plays you have for THAT WEEK. So, scouting the opposing team comes in real handy too: exploiting a weak secondary or a small front line, etc...

I think this could work well for defense play calling as well. The more you practice, the more packages you'll have to run against your next opponent.

There could be some sort of risk/reward type element in there too, somehow. Players getting injured during practice, fatigue, etc so it behooves you to practice with your backups as well. Hell, you could even work progression into this somehow.

I know this will never happen, but what do you guys think?

I don't want to have to bore myself with practice (Practice?) just to get my whole playbook to be available to me.

Sorry, I just don't like the idea. I enjoy playing games, practice doesn't appeal to me.

Re: Proposed playcalling system fo '11

I can see it happening. I know how defense would work too. Say I get my practice offense to run certain plays against my defense that my opponent likes to run. Then when it comes game time, my safety may see the TE run the post route we he saw in practice 50 times and he will jump it or the route the typically throw to.

The risk/reward could be trick plays from those. The TE could fake the route, safety jumps it and the TE goes by him. I don't know how to tell what plays the CPU runs. We could watch tapes of the CPUs game? Or I think 2k5 had the 3 plays the team ran the most and you could work against those.

In 2k5 you didn't do the practice, you just scheduled it and it was simmed.

See, that i'm fine with.

I'm all for putting this kind of stuff in the game, I just don't want to be required to do it.

16 base plays though?

I can't argue with the thought process but my pee wee football team when I was 8 had more than 16 plays.

Personally I wouldn't wanted to limit the playbook but I wouldn't mind some sort of confidence (if you want to call it that) with each play based on what your teams offense focus was that weak.

Saying a team can only have 16 base plays is just not logical IMO.

He's saying there is 16 plays you can call and not really have to worry about being bad or sloppy. But you need to practice others to get them down so they aren't sloppy and you'll avoid a WR running a different route than you thought they would.

Re: Proposed playcalling system fo '11

If you factor in how well a team knows a certain play, you'd definitely have to do the reverse as well: factor in how well an opposing team can recognize a frequently called play. IRL, you have to mix it up for this reason, despite the benefit of having certain plays the team knows better than others.
