We are seeing a phenomenon here. I call it the "Funeral Phenominon". The dead man is more prone to be remembered fondly at his own funeral, and his flaws overlooked.

Such is the case with NFL 2K5.

Because it is dead, it has been "martyred." Its die-hard followers judge it not for the also-flawed game that it was, but rather assume that the next iteration would have been a study in perfection. In their own minds, 2K6 would have had no problems, none of the usual playtesting debacles, all of the defensive commands working, no glitches, perfect franchise, realistic trades, brand new playbooks (this after 4 years of the same), as well as a hyper realism mode that would have SURELY been instituted in their now dead product.

And guess what- Madden fans would have done the same thing and had the same notions about what "could have been" in Madden 2006 if 2K/Sega would have outbid their game.

Its all rather comical.

It all comes down to two kids on a playground singing "Mine's better than yours... la ...la-la-la la!". Except one has a product, and one now has vaporware along with an ASSUMPTION that it "would have been perfect if given another year."

If some of you ***** guys were willing to step outside yourselves and listen to how you sound during this whole debate, you'd have to laugh at yourselves.

Rent Madden 2006, then judge it on its merits or lack of merits. If you don't like it, don't buy it, play SPN NFL 2K5 for the rest of your life, and cheers to you. The fate of the universe is not in the balance. Make your decision, whatever that decision is, and live with it. We don't need re-affirmed of anyone's decision or their anger with every post. We get it already.
Man, why do you try to act like your so impartial when your not, you are no different than the disgruntled ESPN fan. You say you like ESPN but every chance you get you point out flaws never mentioning any of Maddens flaws
and let me tell you there are quit a few.

Lets see where we can start, NO PASS INTERFERANCE CALLS, SUPER HUMAN LINBACKERS, PREHISTORIC GRAPHICS everyone is the same from the waist down, same DRY *** COMMENTARY, ANTIQUATED REPLAY system ,OLD PLAYBOOKS, WASHED OUT COLOR PALETE, MIGET PLAYER MODELS, HAS ANY NOTICED THE PLAYACTION PASSSING WHERE THE QB TURNS HIS BACK TO LINE OF SCRIMMAGE IF THAT WAS ESPN WE WOULD HAVE HAD A TEN Page thread on that alone. Its amazing how these things could be ingnored.

Forgive me, father- for I broke ESPN FANBOY COMMANDMENT NUMER ONE.

1.) Thou shalt say no bad words about ESPN, or say it was "also flawed".

Thus, it must mean that I am an EA fanboy. I will say 10 "Hail Visual Concepts" chants while bowing before an image of the NFL 2K5 cover.

Sincerely,
Your Humble Servant...

Re: EA could be in trouble

Is it impartial to say that many of my fellow ESPN fans are acting like temper-tantruming fools? I was upset after the deal, and none too pleased with it. However, that's business. It is what it is.

Its been FOUR F***ING MONTHS, PEOPLE. Get a grip already. Time to move on.

What difference does all the anger and hate make? Will that change anything? Tell me- how are all the "hate posts" helping anything?

THAT'S the point.

Re: EA could be in trouble

Must be on how you interpret the post.

Point is, both games have issues. If both games were still going until the day we die, they would always have problems. Never will there be a perfect sports sim/game.

Always remember we, sports videogame die-hards, are in the minority. Big time.
Try and put the "fanboyish" thoughts to the side when discussing competing sports games.

And being a fan of the 2K series, I'll be the first to admit I'm excited to see what EA can do this upcoming year. Am I dissapointed about the deal? Of course. But thats the business world. I love sports games, always will. And because of that I am optimistic for what the future holds, new technology, bigger markets as the videogame business continues to grow.

Heres to EA . The spot light is on now more than ever, and if they don't realize that, then they wouldn't be in business. I hope they step up nicely.
Heres to 2K sports and VC . Hoping their football engine does not go away. And that they use their creative minds and talent to continue a good thing.

Well said. Honestly, if 989 Sports (heaven forbid!) had the NFL contract, I'd hope that they made a world-beater and came up strong the next year. I love football. Gotta deal with the cards we are dealt, or at least see the cards we are dealt before we declare that we "fold".

Only one football title to be released this year. Other than that silly NCAA Football, which has the same horrid gameplay as Madden. Now this is what's gonna happen.

You have a TON of angry ESPN Football fans forced to try Madden. Some even hoped for an NFL Blitz return. And an even smaller fanbase had eyes for a return of NFL Gameday. In order for EA to regain this fanbase, it has to do what Take 2 and VC has done the past 3 years.. ( give in to the fans, and create quality titles). Give them what they want. However, EA Sports is not into giving you anything. They are about money, and silliness to get by. EA knows that it's the most popular title, so it doesn't have to put forth efforts like the other Companies had to do to gain recognition. Which resulted in a strong, and arguably still, best title on the market in ESPN Football.

It's a different ballgame now, as all eyes are on Madden 2006. Every Madden Forum on the net is going to be at war, if EA releases another mockery as they did with Madden 2005. And I feel they will start to lose credibility if they DO NOT produce a quality title this year. Gaming fans will bash them beyond belief, rather than submit to the Madden Franchise again. I feel it's a lot of pressure on them. A great competitor is gone now, leaving EA Sports to make one hell of a football game, or not gaining ANYONE else to it's market. And therefore, losing more trust from hardcore gamers. Because eventually, the kids who claim it's so great still, yet have tons and tons of complaints and wishes for it to get better, will finally realize that EA is just not what they make themselves out to be.

I for one cannot wait until May, for E3 Week to see what lies ahead. I'm not hyped for Madden, not impressed by it's last 3 releases, and DO NOT feel EA is putting forth the effort right now to please the lost fanbase of the other titles. We will soon see.
I'm sorry, I thought you had something interesting to say.

lol.. Sarcasm at its finest..

I hope EA puts out the best NFL title period this yr.. I doubt they will, cause to do that, they would have to create a new game engine. I hate Maddens running game with a passion.. & know it won't get fixed until the next gen consoles are released (hopefully)..

Again, if VC puts out a generic football title with great game play that will be my football game for 06. I can handle fake players.. I just want realism.. & No, I'm not saying 2k5 was levels above maddens gameplay, but I liked it better as a whole. If they can improve thayt I'm in.. I might even buy Madden 06 too if EA really makes a good improvment..
