Re: Make Madden more arcade?

I am split on this. I love 2k8 for how realistic it is on the field. It mimics the game of football better than any game made. It really is a chess match. Madden on the other hand has been a pretender most of this gen. They want to be a sim game, but its not possible because its arcade at the heart.

I either want gameplay like APF 2k8, or I want gameplay that is going to be fun, but will get me realistic results. Balance out the realism with the arcade like GTA IV and Backbreaker have and I should be a happy camper. Package a balanced game with great presentation and franchise mode, then the game may finally be fun again.

One thing I don't want is my only NFL choice to be like NFL Blitz. Thats not the arcade I am talking about at all.

Oh, and to answer the OPs question, no I dont agree. I think they have a good balance of both arcade/sim as it is now. Just needs a couple more sprinkles of immersion/presentation elements and it will taste exquisite.

Re: Make Madden more arcade?

I think they were headed in this direction anyway so they might as well fully commit 100% to the arcade area. I think trying to please everyone is only going to make more and more people angry and frustrated.

Good post ryan!

Re: Make Madden more arcade?

in the promo vids i hear the devs talking about feedback they got, which led to the game planning feature and strat pad....

i would like to see these polls or where they were posted. i am active over at EA forums and never saw them....

sometimes i think they take suggestions from the madden nation participants/ gamers of similar nature for upgrades/fixes....

i would really like to know who they really view as their target audience with this game...

also those promo vids show how they feel about who plays the product, if you are trying to make the already thin madden 10 playcall,D adjjustments simplier you could not be aiming at the sim fans.....

sim would be complicated/bulky strategy options and menu's - simplier and faster is the opposite of that.......

i now play madden for its worth, an hour of reversing the outcome of what happened to my fav team on sunday. no franchise, no online play

Friends of Ian's and CD guys have said "there's a lot of code to slog through" and there are technical aspects that make the game very hard to tweak.

So if they can't build a new one, we're set for 4% improvement each year. I say just go with what they've got , take out some of the artificial/glitchy bandaids they've tried, and change directions.

You may not agree, but it's a fair opinion. I want sim, I don't think I'll get it next year, let's do something else
Yeah, but I have no desire to play an unrealistic arcade game, which M11 already is. I can't stand the way Madden is now; I want to get rid of all the riff raff, not enhance it.

Umm...No, that's basically a kids game, and by kids I mean twelve and under. Who wants to play a game, besides grade schoolers, that's geared toward grade schoolers ?

I'm saying give up on sim, EA can't do it, and the GP feature is exactly the type of thing I'm talking about.
The game-planning feature was a demonstration of sheer laziness in my opinion. That fact that , on defense, down and distance were completely ignored proves that. It also proves that the feature was a gimmick: it was something to promote the game and put on the back of the box along with locomotion and dual stick controls because that's all Tiburon really added this year. It's impossible to form a decent game-plan without paying attention to down and distance. You need the down and distance as well as the personnel to call plays on defense; otherwise it will be too easy for the user on offense to exploit various match ups in the running and passing game.

They get it from tracking their online players. That's what dictated there decision to change the kicking meter, the strategy pad and gameflow/gameplanning. Not forums.
Who's their target audience. Casual players and noobs. The hardcore crowd have been neglected for over five years yet most still buy it.

Re: Make Madden more arcade?

All they have to do is put a "next gen" polish (smooth out aliasing, widen the screen a bit, tweak graphics) on the last gens game and I'd be happy. But, they won't do that. Heck 99% of the complainers like me would be happy.

Me too. They need to decide. This in between stuff isn't cutting it for me.

Yes we would. But since that won't happen, and sim won't happen...I'm saying just let the engine(s) do what they were designed for and give the game an identity
