I don't disagree, but let's not forget the follies of naming New Coke vs Classic Coke. People hated the new change and the name went back to the original name and what it is still called today, Coke.

Also, you mentioned that Madden has very little do to with the game. He is still a consultant and still invites EA to his pad to discuss what should be considered to be in the game. Last year, one of the things he mentioned was to put more shotgun plays in.

I don't think he is just a name on the box.

I don't see why you'd change it. Madden is a tradition and the name is synonymous with video game football. I don't see why you'd want to change that since the branding power is so strong.

So the consensus seems to be that the Madden name still carries alot of brand name recognition and product awareness.

I dunno, lately I've been questioning the whole idea of brand name recognition, especially in a relatively niche market like NFL football video games. I just figured people recognized EA as the only developer of these games, and thus would buy whatever they churned out (regardless of its name). Maybe what I've neglected is that people don't recognize it so much as 'EA's product' as they recognize it as 'the newest Madden'.

Yeah since the Elite renaming went so well...

Renaming/rebranding won't fix anything. Just putting lipstick on the pig. Madden's brand recognition is too strong for EA to even consider this, it was stupid to do it with Live in the first place.
