Re: You don't play online? Why?

I hate playing pick up games online for many of the reasons people have mentioned.

-Money Plays
-Opponents quit when losing
-Opponents purposely drag the game longer hoping you will quit if they are losing bad.
-Occasional lag which really annoys me.

I'd play in more leagues but lining up times to play is tough. I don't play at consistent times and it can become a chore. I would play in online leagues under some circumstances.

-H2H games are simmed and not actually played.
-People don't freak out if you don't play your game every single day and sometimes multiple times a day.
-People are laid back and don't take the league too seriously. (People quit when they aren't as good as others.)
-People just want to have fun.
-Not so many rules about how to play like I see when browsing leagues online.

Honestly people make game scheduling way harder than it needs to be. EVERY LEAGUE that is respectable has a set advance schedule. Look ahead to the next week after you finish your game and post "Browns vs Steelers" " Hey man I am available M-W 8pm est til Midnight... lets get this in".

Problem is some people think that their opponent should wait by the console and play at the drop of a hat. Or they are too good to contact their opponent to schedule... those guys get booted from the league immediatley. Its about showing respect to each other and realizing that everyone in life is busy. Its really not hard.

I don't get it, everyone who comments here says it's because of cheesers, if you find a sim league there are no cheesers, I applied for one run here on OS and I think it'll be a lot of fun. But on topic I find it fun playing online, even though there are cheesers, that is what communities are for, fin a sim one and roll with it. Btw, I'd be interested in getting like a 10-12 person CC so all the people that like playing sim, we can do that and you can play vs. the CPU most games aswell.

Re: You don't play online? Why?

Shaun, I thought on the question a lot more, and this is moreover the real issue for me:

Having to play in an online league with meeting specific timeframes is what keeps me from being an online gamer altogether. My line of work is so random-yet-deadline specific when it hits...my only real option is to be able to play a season at random as well. Granted, I could play random pick up games online with folks, it still wouldn't satiate the desires to put a season together, you know.

I think this is the reality for the older, working class, most of us...and I'm willing to admit this is likely my biggest conscious and very likely even subconscious reason for not wanting regular offline features to be stripped away. Self-reflection and humility achieved - apologies to all who have disliked my OCD on the subject.

yea really, never found scheduling to be an issue if you're in a league that goes at consistent pace that matches up with your ability to play. My CCM will be a Saturday/Wednesday night advance.. so 2 games a week. With a couple forum posts, it's easy to find a time over 3 day period that matches up with my opponent for most part.

I will usually do something offline as well to fill in the random voids. But i like to play FIFA clubs and I am looking at NHL too this year with GM Connected so those other games might fill the rest of my gaming hours.

I have 2 kids, coach two sports, have a full time job and also help run TSO. Scheduling my games is really the only way i can roll, i have to plan everything to get it all in during the week.

no but we have some PS3 leagues that are strong. We also have an interest thread for each console, when we get enough interested we start new leagues.

I know this wasn't addressed to me, but I'll like to say that some people make it more difficult than it is. If you have an odd work schedule then, try to find a small league or a create a "Day Time" league or something like that.

Like I said, my first league was with two of my buddies from work in NCAA 11 and the three of us have been playing together ever since. We all work together so our schedules fit, however we have other real life things that get in the way too. While I don't have any kids, one of the guys has two and the other has one and another on the way. Sometimes each of us may have to work out of town or are on vacation or whatever, so we don't even have a set advance time - we just wait on one another.

In my OS OD's that typically has 12 guys we have a 'hard' three day advance rules. Most of the times guys can get together and play within the time-frame ,but sometimes they may have conflicting schedules and games get simmed. That's just the way it is and it's understood. I'm actually going to be in two 32 user Madden CC's this year. One is going to run along side the NFL season, so only one game a week which should be a piece of cake. The other has two advances a week and I'm anxious to see how it all plays out, but I'm fairly confident in most of the users due to knowing pretty well from on here.

Anyway the moral of the story is if you can't find a perfect league for you, then create one that suites your needs. You may be surprised at others who are in the same situation as you.
