If no, why not?
  1. Lag
  2. Respect usually gives way to winning
  3. Longevity (or lack there-of) of leagues
  4. Stop caring after losing to better league members
  5. (4A) Losing sucks
  6. Playing other users in sports games almost always ends in anger from one side or the other.
  7. (6A) It isn't worth the time and/or stress.
  8. I have more fun not being called unsim when playing the CPU
  9. I can make a crappy team into a winner without needing to have a 99 SPD player at WR or HB.
  10. I don't have to plan my life around other people
  11. The list could go on forever.

Re: You don't play online? Why?

That easily the best list I've ever read and it's the truth.

I play in the OS Vets league and it's very fun...but most of the time I can handle losing. You still get people who resort to cheap tactics from time to time.

Re: You don't play online? Why?

Reading through the thread one thing jumps out at me.
I'm surprised at how many don't like online. Thought I was in the minority for OS.

I've thought about joining an online league before but was hesitant because I didn't know if I could commit the time and I'm not the best at the game so what if I lose most of the time, will it still be fun.
A few years ago I would never consider an online league but there are some sites now that seem to be organizing things so that you can find people that want a good game like we all do.

I'm actually going to be playing in NHL's gm connected online this year. 2 big reasons.
1. you can play games from a set of days out of order, so it should be easier to set up a game.
2. with so many season games theres no pressure if you miss a few, compared to Madden where missing 2 regular season games could cost you the season.

Re: You don't play online? Why?

Well Madden servers have changed over last two editions. On Madden 11 and 12 most games I played online were slow motion lagged out games. Like a slow stuttery framerate. I have a great connection here in Houston and no problems with other games.

I went down to my parents house and had a great connection with almost everyone. Whats funny is there internet speed is half of mine. Plus they live in BFE compared to me. Most connections in Houston are **** for Madden only. They are routing the games very differently here. Madden 10 was great!! I have no problems at all with ncaa

Re: You don't play online? Why?

I used to be a commish and co-commish for 2 online leagues for madden pc (2001-2002 online system and then the "hybrid" for series afterwards up to 2008). I enjoyed it immensely - and it is how I got into PC gaming more, and more - It's where my love for computers took off.

Then I found offline. I played Pro Evolution Soccer, I figured out that there wasn't anything to change the gameplay to the way I see it on tv. So I became a gameplay editor for PES by changing statistics/ratings of players to make for a better game (similar to what some do on here) - and this was for PES 4 (2004). Here's the thread of where I discovered this method: http://www.soccergaming.com/forums/s...d.php?t=100276

As a result of enjoying what I did there, I started to get deeper into football games, not just soccer games. Madden and NCAA needed so much help (they still do apparently, but not AS much) and it was very important to me to get it right, and realistic.

I learned all this by being completely offline. I wanted to battle against the computer on a daily/nightly basis. I didn't want to "compete" as in I HAD TO WIN at all costs. No. I wanted to enjoy the feeling of a well played game - a realistic one that brings in the HUMAN element to the COMPUTER. That is the challenge. That is why sliders have saved NCAA/Madden/FIFA for me - it's the closest thing we can get to making the game to FEEL the way we want it. There is no manipulation necessary, no worry about pride - but yet, I wanted to hold myself accountable to each and every gaming endeavor...thus the birth of dynasty REPORTING (Dynasty HQ on OS) for me. It started on Maddenmania and Madden Nation way back when; and I've never looked back.

I won't ever play online against anyone ever again. I've tried, and put in my time - and just don't enjoy it as much as what I've stated above. There is just something so rewarding to be able to hold yourself accountable to your losses/ugly wins and know you experienced something that was truly SIM.
