From reports ive heard is that he doesnt get involved with pitchers mechanics because the ones hes gotten have been "primadonnas" and dont feel they need help. This has caused a regression in his skills for helping the players.

Look at Weaver 2 years ago. He went right back to being a decent pitcher(granted it was a pitchers park in the NL) in one offseason. Look at Vasquez last year. The entire league notcied a problem in his mechanice, but nothing was done to fix them over the course of a half-season.

Dont be surprised if Vasquez ends up in the Top 5 in the NL CY Young voting this year. The pitching coach from the D-Backs is very hands on
Jeff Weaver was never really anything special on the tigers and like you said it was a pitchers park i mean that park is huge. But i understand what you are saying with vasquez, it was almost the same thing as wells except for wells just totally blew everything off and his attitude was crap. I'm pretty sure javy wasn't like that. As for him finishing in the top 5 of the CY Young voting i dont think that will happen, but i guess you never know cause there is no pressure on him to win on a crappy team like arizona. Maybe Jose Contreras will win the AL CY Young and George Steinbrenner will hang himself, lol.

Vazquez's problems had nothing to do with pressure though. There were some obvious mechanical problems over the second half of last year. He had a 3.56 ERA before the all-star break but a 6.92 ERA after. An ERA doesn't balloon like that unless he is having some physical problems with his health or delivery.

I don't want to hijack this thread and turn it into a Yankees vs Red Sox thing but I think the main point here is that Stottlemyre is nowhere near the level of Leo Mazzone, thus Jaret Wright will not be able to put up the same kind of numbers in NY. If you need me to bust out my Mazzone stats, I'd be more than happy to.

Oh yeah....name another pitcher who has left the Braves and continued his success. Im actually scared of what Mazzone is going to do with Hudson.

Jason Schmidt does not count, they did not know what they had with him.

So go ahead, name one. I already know who you are going to say.

Just got home and turned the game on, 3-1 Yankees in the 4th.

Is the sound not working for anyone else? I'm watching on YES.

Kind of, but I'd like to hear the crowd...and O'Neil. Saw they were interviewing Selig though, at least I didn't have to listen to his dumb ***.
