Re: 2011 Pittsburgh Pirates

Well, they need a solid #1 pitcher. I just hope they can buck their recent trend of pitchers being drafted first turning out to be busts.

Re: 2011 Pittsburgh Pirates

Somebody pinch me, Pirates are 45-41 and only 1.5 games out of first. They said on the news tonight that the Buccos haven't been 4 games over .500 this late in a season since '92 which was also their last winning season. Also, last year they didn't win their 45th game until September 3rd.

Re: 2011 Pittsburgh Pirates

Well, I've probably been one of the more negative towards the Pirates, but it's time to change my tune. This team is playing pretty well and is a lot of fun to watch right now. I spent the past week in the Dominican Republic on vacation, but even caught a game on TV against the Blue Jays while down there (in Spanish, but it's baseball in any language). Color me excited to see what happens the rest of the year!

Andrew McCutchen named to the All-Star roster to replacement Ryan Braun, happy for McCutchen, he really deserves to be there

Re: 2011 Pittsburgh Pirates

So why is there another Pirates thread on the main page when there is already a thread right here???????

Anyways, yeah, it's great to see the Buccos playing good baseball and being competitive. They haven't had this good of a record this late in a season since '92. Can't wait to see what they do when Tabata an Alvarez are healthy again.

Re: 2011 Pittsburgh Pirates

Anybody have any thoughts on who the Pirates will trade for? Buster Onley (spelling?) tweeted earlier today the Pirates were asking around for veteran outfielders, but he didn't specify anyone in particular. The more I've looked into it the more annoying writers I've seen. The Pirates are contending! They will be contending in September! One Pittsburgh writer, Dejan Ko - something (I think it was him) suggested the Pirates be sellers due to their difficult schedule at the end of this month...

Anyway, here are some names that have been thrown out there. How do you think they'll go after? Who do you want them to go after?

-Carlos Pena
-Geo Soto
-Hunter Pence
-Derek Lee
-James Loney
-Michael Cuddyer
-Aramis Ramirez
-Josh Willingham

Hard to say. I'd imagine they might look for a more consistent hitter. I don't think they'd go after ARam though since they've got Alavarez. We'll see what happens when Alvarez and Tabata are healthy again.
