Re: Operation Sports Full Minors 2011 - Recruiting

Knight,

With this new player vault does this mean we will have more players who aren't retired but haven't been offered contracts (Jermaine Dye, Kenny Lofton, Barry Bonds, Rickey Henderson) or players in the independents (Joey Gathright). Thanks for the answer and sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.

Knight,

Thanks for keeping me in there for the Giants. I'm actually gathering prospect rankings and looking at depth charts right now to get an idea of who to create for the Giants. I've also scanned last year's sets to see what I can use from last year as a quick reference. I've got a few questions for you I'll get together in the days to come. Kind of a busy weekend with Giants fanfest and the Super Bowl, but come monday, I'll be full throttle preparing for the release. Thanks again for allowing me to contribute.

Very good....Thank you.

I'm going to leave picking your prospects to include to you guys.....but we will discuss the potential levels.
We really(REALLY )...need to be objective in this regards. Err on the lower side if you must

If we want to start hashing out top 50 or 100....by all means...let's talk!

Re: Operation Sports Full Minors 2011 - Recruiting

Dear Knight,

My personal preference regarding player potentials for minor league players is to follow in general the values worked out by John Sickels in his "Top 20 Prospects for 2011" reports for the 30 teams. As I understand it the "others of note" in each report are also considered "C" players. I believe his scheme of values is reasonably fair and objective across all the teams. It also gives a more realistic distribution of values (few As, many more Cs etc.) Of course I do not know how such a scheme would work when actually Simmed in the game. In any event we will all look to your direction on this.

Thanks.

Karle

PS. In my last message in the Roster Makers Resource Thread I list my proposed potential ratings for Detroit's minor league players which pretty well follows the Sickels scheme with some tweaking based on the comments Mark Anderson (of Scout).

Re: Operation Sports Full Minors 2011 - Recruiting

I'm not too sure about John Sickels. I like his rankings, but I disagree with some of the grades. Some of them were adjusted for the sake of being adjusted in comparison of other players (i.e. the Padres top 3 prospects getting the shaft for apparently no reason). However, I take that plus BA's top prospects and Baseball Prospectus's tier system.

In any case. I also have +/- system although the game itself doesn't, but I understand the range the game has, so an A+ in my book would be a maximum potential. I expect the best farm systems to have five or six A-potentials throughout all three levels with average ones about 3-4, and weak ones maybe 1 or none. I know Knight said they'd be doing a distribution but I've already charted out a preliminary potential set for some of the players I intend to include on the Padres side:

A-Potential: 2
SP Casey Kelly - A (AA)
SP Matt Lollis - A- (Class-A)
B-Potential: 14
1B Anthony Rizzo - B+ (AAA)
SP Simon Castro - B+ (AAA)
SP Adys Portillo - B+ (Class-A)
SP Keyvius Sampson - B (Class-A)

CF Reymond Fuentes - B (AA)
CF Donovan Tate - B (Class-A)
RF Jaff Decker - B (AA)
RP Craig Italiano - B- (AAA)
3B James Darnell - B- (AAA)
SS Jonathan Galvez - B- (Class-A)
C-Potential: 23
SP Jeremy Hefner - C+ (AAA)
SP Juan Oramas - C+ (AA)
SP Anthony Bass - C+ (AA)
RP Brad Brach - C+ (AA) (Closer)
RP Rob Musgrave - C+ (AA)
C Jason Hagerty - C+ (Class-A)
2B Logan Forsythe - C+ (AAA)
3B Edinson Rincon - C+ (Class-A)
