Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds

Here's a tip on how I extend players on 1 year deals to long term deals in franchise.I did it on the 1st day of spring training:

1. Load your roster(Knight's)
2. Go to Roster Control
3. Go to Player Movement
4. Pick the player you want to switch(I used Drew Stubbs)and a bad player in one of the 3 FA lists. Put your player in FA and the bad player on your roster.
5. Press square to auto fix the roster before you leave roster control. You may have to fix lineups later.
6. Save the roster once you've put all the players you want to re-sign in FA (i called mine R.
7. Start a new franchise with the R roster(or whatever you want to name it)
8. Go to FA once your franchise starts. Cut the bad player and sign your player in FA. Drew Stubbs was in FA and I was able to sign him to a 6 year, 17.88 million dollar deal.

How does budget adjustment work? I'm the Pirates and I made a few trades to improve the team, but a lot of my other young, key players are on 1-year deals. If I have a good season (like make the playoffs or something), will my budget go up? If so, how much usually? Because I always get a message when I have a bad season, saying "Budget unchanged", so I'm assuming if I do well I'll actually have the $ to re-sign my FAs?

That's a good idea dude.

Are you seasoned Vets saying that every single team controlled Franchise will eventually experience the player bug? I'm 11 games in and contemplating starting over with the 30 team fix after reading this. Any advice would be appreciated.

I believe so. I think the deeper you go in the playoffs, the more your budget will increase. You won't get any increase if you fail to make the playoffs though.

I noticed something interesting using my method. I put Francisco Cordero and Brandon Phillips in FA, and the Reds budget decreased from 87 million to 64 million. I still had 23 million under the cap though. Player salaries decreased from 64 million to 41 million.

1. How this works/Where can I go to find out how to get the lineups set after spring training? Last year there was a franchise file is that Hustlin owls this year? Saw some on Sportsconnect but thought only could be done with franchise files or something.

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds

This post is awesome. I do need a littel advice though. Here is what I am looking for.

I want to:

control lineups/ rotations for all teams
control trades/FA for all teams
Allow for random injuries
Make edits to players on all teams (equipment, ratings, etc)

What would be the best user settings for this? I really want to make sure that the computer does not make ridiculous trades. I only want transactions that actually happen. Injuries are fine though. I also want to proceed as if each team is starting with a healthy, fully-functioning club.

Thanks for any help

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds

Just an update on my Roster Control re-signing method-Any player you sign to a LTC from FA won't be on the 40 man roster. You'll need to add them to the 40 man roster and move to MLB from the Manage Roster screen.Once you do that, you'll be able to set them in lineups and pitching rotation in spring training.Otherwise, they won't be able to participate in spring training and will be sent down to the minors after spring training.
