My pitching has really let me down this season so far, especially the bullpen. Hernandez's ERA has been misleading as he really has not pitched well. He has let the majority of inherited runners score. Martinez, O'Flaherty and Medlen all have ERA's over 5. The options I have in AAA really aren't producing enough to warrant a call up over these guys. So I may be in the market for a veteran right hander to come in from the pen. The starting pitching has really come on as of late. Hanson, Jurrjens and Minor have been solid all season. Beachy started off poorly but has had 3 solid starts in a row. Hudson was recently activated and has been inconsistent so far.
Bourn has had his moments this season, but still not hitting well enough at the top of the lineup. Chipper has really struggled this season, but I'm hoping he can stay healthy and his numbers will come around. Pastornicky fractured his foot, and Jack Wilson had to take over at SS. I was really worried about that, but Wilson has held his own so far with the bat. For the most part, my bench has been solid with Ross, Hinske, and Sutton. Francisco just got demoted as he hit only .094. Mejia was having a great season in AAA, so I called him up to give me another righty bat off the bench. I have to figure out what to do with Diaz. Thinking long and hard about cutting ties with him so I can bring up someone who can play solid defense and some CF. I will more than likely be looking on the market for this.
Through the first quarter of the season, the only significant free agent signing was OAK signing Oswalt to a one year, 7M dollar deal.
