Re: Whats with the abundance of ****ty umpire calls

Yeah I wouldn't go that far. I've definitely been bailed out by bad calls a ton of times in big situations. I distinctly remember a game just the other day where I was on my final strike, got a pitch in the zone called a ball (woulda been strike 3 to end the game), and I promptly hit the next pitch in the gap to tie the game.

Of course I lost the game anyway 2 innings later, but still!

Yes real umpires make a lot of mistakes, but their mistakes are fairly consistent throughout a game, and even throughout a year. One umpire will call a lot of outside strikes all the time, another won't.

In The Show the "variable umpire" settings feel more like "variable coin flip"
This is how I feel about it too...we've had this discussion here before.

It doesn't seem like you can identify early in the game that the ump is giving the inside strike and keep going there...it seems too random.

Your opinion, I wouldn't say it's reaching at all. Of course, the fact that I play exclusively on HoF difficulty may also have something to do with it.

My only problem with the variable ump, is lack of consistency. How can you squeeze a guy on the outside corner 1 pitch, then 2 pitches later have a pitch further outside than the 1st pitch be called a strike. I like the different zones, but wish they were consistent.

In my opinion, higher level = increased chance CPU makes comeback due to a number of factors, such as CPU getting more umpire calls, higher chance of CPU muscling bad pitches for hits, higher chance that a pitch thrown by user ends up nowhere near the intended target, etc. But again, this is only my opinion.

Except I play on HoF too.
Maybe those comeback umps are only being tested in certain markets.
