Importing rosters

So David Ortiz has retired and won't be on this years game. As a Red Sox fan this sucks. But I was wondering, if I import the rosters from 2016 into the new game, can I then export David Ortiz to add him to the new default rosters on 2017? And will it carry his appearance and stats?

Re: Importing rosters

It might carry over his stats, but not his appearance. Same with Jose Fernandez.

Would his appearance be editable?

What will most likely happen (98% chance) is that David Ortiz will appear as a randomly generated player with his correct career stats and service time up to 2016 Opening Day. You will be able to edit his body, face, and attributes. You would have to sim to accrue correct service time and stats for the 2016 season, same with Jose Fernandez and any other player no longer in the game (for whatever reason).

No, I went through the same thing last year with Wilin Rosario. They just look like a generic "Joe Random." When a player retires or leaves the league they also leave the MLBPA, so SDS loses the player's appearance rights (I believe). Of course Ortiz could still be in the game as a Legend, but I'm not sure how that would affect last year's rosters.

"Joe Random" is an editable player though, the poster would be able to edit Ortiz's appearance to look more realistic and less random since he's no longer in the league and therefore not face scanned anymore

That's not how it was in 16. I had the same idea as the OP did because Wilin Rosario had gone to play in Korea and I wanted to use him in a roster.
I would suggest trying it in 16 to see yourself. I would send a screenshot but I have no franchise save files from 15 to transfer.

Re: Importing rosters

Of course it could be different in 17, but I wouldn't count on it.
