This feels like a stupid question but I'm doubtful so I feel like I need to ask it. Packs are only useful for DD right? If I'm someone who never plays DD, I have zero use for packs right? Or am I missing something about packs that I don't see?

You can get rituals, equipment, and sponsors from packs which the first two can be used in RTTS (Road to the Show) and the sponsors can be used in Franchise mode. The player cards and stadiums that you can also get from packs are specific to Diamond Dynasty mode.

Assuming things stay as they were in '17 regarding packs, the equipment you pull out of them can be used by your RTTS player, to give them stat boosts. And I believe sponsorships can be used in Franchise. Both are completely optional, and both modes can be played just fine without them.

With the qualifier again of "if things stay as they are" you don't need to play DD to get packs/items. They drop as random rewards after games in any mode if you play while connected to the internet, plus there are daily bonus items just for starting up the game too.

I never played a lot of games in DD but I still loved collecting the cards so I played enough to get points for new packs.
I was more about collecting sets rather than have items to use in DD games/players.

They need to give us the ability to edit our DD players' equipment. Every thread or comment section involving this game, no matter where it is, is filled with "X player switched to Adidas" or "Y player's batting gloves are wrong" Doing so would solve all of these problems. They hardly get anyone's equipment right and even when they do, there's no guarantee that their "team color 1, team color 2" configuration is gonna work with your team's colors. DD is all about customization and this would add a crucial layer to that.

If any devs read this and there's a technical or practical reason why this hasn't happened yet, please let me know.

I'm just here to collect. I play it in the beginning waiting for rosters. The bummer for me is there's so much parody with the teams. I just want to be able to do the missions offline. That way I won't be rubbing elbows with the doucher's out there...
