Or I could play challenges, domination, etc (not to mention other game modes like MyLeague), bank up MT/VC, then open a ton of packs when theres actually highly rated players in them. Then I can go to MyTeam online with good players.

I think the pack odds are great compared to last year. My first three packs that you get with the Pre-Tip Off code got me both Stephen Curry and Chris Paul. After playing the MyNBA 2K17 app, I got enough VC to buy one league pass pack and I got a Klay Thompson through it. Currently grinding Domination mode to get another pack to see if I can try my luck again. So far, my team is pretty good to breeze through the first couple of Domination games. Picked up a cheap DeAndre Jordan, Dirk Nowitzki and Chris Bosh through the auction house and now my team is solid.

the game hates me. all preorder packs I got centers (jv, d12 and dammit mozgov). I chose Porzingod as the starter pack and I got another 5 centre's. Brutal opening.

I had the opposite problem, no decent centers but I pulled Curry, Irving, Wall, Lowry, Westbrook, CP3, and others

Brutal. I also went with Porzingis and I had pretty bleh draws, but at least they were varied...Goran Dragic, Zach Lavine, Evan Turner, Steven Adams, and Patrick Patterson. Got Iguodala in that one consumables pack that they force you to buy.

Pulled a couple Golds in my pre-order bonus packs and pulled a Tyreke Evans after my 2nd Gauntlet...er, Blacktop, win.

It may be a minute before they drop good promo packs other than the TBT (assuming they're returning). The first promo packs last year were the ROTY and 6MOY packs which weren't even as good as the current cards at that time.

They might choose to start off with the college packs this year given that model, and I don't know how good they can possibly be.
