What's worse, Bogut was dominating the paint to be the team's leading scorer in the last two CPU-CPU matchups. The answer is in the midrange and close shot tendencies! 2K default rosters GROSSLY overestimate how many of these types of jumpers that modern NBA players take. I plugged in my formulas for shot distance tendencies from years past, and the difference was amazing. For the Warriors, it was like the leash was taken off. In fact, in sim stats, now the W's take too many three pointers! So I'll need to adjust my scales a little bit, and this problem should be fixed.

If you want to see a sample of the difference for yourself, lower Steph Curry's midrange shot tendency, which I think is 85 IIRC, down to 35.

I'm planning on releasing a spreadsheet soon of all the tendencies that I feel 100% good about straight out of my database, which will contain ratings for almost every NBA player in history. Should help historic roster makers quite a bit. Unfortunately, I need to rewrite the code that extracts any new stats so I won't have ratings for the new season until later on, but expect those to be ready a couple months from now once enough players have played a decent sample size.
Great find! Are you on ps4 and if so, will you be releasing a roster with these particular edits?

Yea, I'm on PS4. I probably won't be releasing a roster just because of time constraints. Because of all the changes they made locking down the rosters from mods on PC for this generation, its just too much work. I used to have a script that would directly feed all my ratings directly into the rosters, but its useless now. I'd rather devote that time to coming up with more formulas and ways to extract data from various sites than pushing numbers in the slow UI.

I'll post my spreadsheet instead, and hopefully all roster makers can benefit from it.

Ha, didn't meant to be secretive, sorry about that. More like always in a perpetual state of "not good enough for the public", so I'd always postpone release.

You think, for example, Curry's high Close and Mid tendencies essentially told the AI not to settle for contested threes with him because he can just shoot from the other areas? But if his Three-Point tendency is by far his highest, he'll get threes up any way he can?

Will require more testing, but essentially, yes, that's the hypothesis.

Regardless, Curry's tendencies are wrong and need to be updated anyways. He shoots 3 times as many threes as he does midrange jumpers in reality, yet he has 85 midrange and 95 3-point tendency? Something's obviously off.

Sounds great man re: the spreadsheet. I will definitely plug the values in and give it a run!

Still too low, but the Warriors did lead the league in PIP in my sim at 32.9. There's a lot more that goes into PIP though, like inside shot %, putback tendencies, drive tendencies etc. There's a lot more work ahead but we'll get this stuff cleaned up.
