Re: Is help defense good this year? Are individual instructions working?

could you guys explain how you incorporate stay attached in your gameplan?

as far as i understand if you Set someone to stay attached, instead it switching to the Ballhandler in a Pick and roll they stay attached to the screener? So this makes sense if the screener is a threat himself eithe because be is a Good shooter in the Pick and Pop or He is Good at rolling to the basket?

Dont quite understand yet how this fuels my defense?

Stay Attached just does as it says in game: "This setting controls when defenders leave their matchup to hedge screens or play help defense". So if you are playing against the Warriors and tell Curry's defender to always stay attached, his on-ball defender will never leave him to hedge a screen or to play help defense. Likewise if you play against the T-wolves and set Rudy Goebert's defender to NEVER stay attached, that defender will always hedge screens set by Rudy and will regularly shift down to play help defense and leave Rudy open. And if you set a defender to stay attached only on screens, that defender will join in on help defense but will stay attached when his assignment is the screener (meaning the PnR ball handler will have an open shot or an open lane if the on-ball defender can't get past the screen quickly).

So in short, you want defenders to stay attached to elite perimeter shooters, and you don't want defenders to stay attached to average/poor perimeter shooters. It's just a way to tell your AI teammates who should stay on their assignment and who should rotate when help is needed.

Using "Stay Attached" on the two best shooters alleviates most of the help defense issues as far as elite shooters being left open, and using Hard Hedge on elite shooters helps open up the game a lot more in the PnR and lead to more assists and scramble situations rather than star players forcing up shots too often.
This is the first time i remember 2k having a stay attached for help defense. Gamechanger indeed. This is probably Czar's doing

Yea I can't remember if there was a separate setting for it before, or if it was tied in with the off-ball pressure settings (Smother, Deny Ball, Leave, etc.). Probably the latter, but it's nice to have it either way! Now hopefull Czar can get the Dpad quick defensive settings menu working.

ah wow, thanks for claryfying. that indeed sounds like a gamechanger!

what you describe is what i thought to be done with the offball defense settings. so leave him for always helping and deny for never helping. need to play around with that, but sounds very promising.
should be possible to enforce some kind of primary help defender thing by setting everyone to never leave their man except my rim protector who never should stay attached.

so you can set stay attached to always, always on screens and never (and auto), correct? but there is no way to do a lets say "always on help but never on screens" kind of thing? if you want to switch guard/guard screens for example but dont want this man to play help side.
