They are not too bad. You can play without buying VC, which actually makes MC mode a bit more fun and challenging, just using what you get from games you play.

But why buy the game now? 2K15 is coming in two months.
Buy a PS4 and buy Last of Us instead now.

VC is definitely the most intrusive it's ever been in 2k14. The free locker code stuff is nice, but the main issue is even having a pay and/or grind barrier for things that should be free, like lineup change abilities or headband and arm sleeves in different colors.

I really hate purchasing a game and being limited on how I play it. Especially in my gm. I just like to play a traditional franchise mode and play an accurate simulation of NBA basketball. I HATE the VC. I'm not going to whine and complain because it's out of my control, but I hate the direction their going in.

VC should be exclusive to online modes like MyTeam. Asking for VC to do simple things such as changing your line up in an off line mode (If I understand correctly) is completely ridiculous.

This will be a game breaker for me. If VC is everywhere, I won't even consider getting the game. Get your stuff together 2K.

My biggest gripe with VC is that it is needed to upgrade things like facilities and team operation upgrades. Those things should require money.

Using VC to purchase stadium upgrades almost defeats the purpose and takes away from the mini game of financial management. In real life and other video games with a financial aspect if you expand too quickly it ends up hurting you but in 2k it is irrelevant.

My big problem with VC was being forced to play every single minute of every game to get it in MyGM. If I'm in a game and get up 20-25 in the 3rd I would usually sim out to the end or if I go up big into the 4th. As a result I could get 0 VC for that game.
