I must admit I can't play this game without defensive assist at '50' and the shot contest setting at 'always'. Without that playing defence can be infuriating.

Yeah, I've noticed this in both online and offline modes. I mostly notice it trying to contest drives and dunks. I can be in good position basically anticipating the layup or dunk attempt, standing between the player and the rim, but I cannot jump even though I'm pushing triangle just before the offense layup/dunk attempt begins. There's a lot to like on defense, in this game; however this isn't it.

Really hurts in the park (but is apparent in offline modes as well) because once they get in the paint, unless you block it (assuming you're allowed to jump) there isn't a lot you can do to affect the shot. And opponents take advantage of this. It makes me feel like everyone has posterizer badge and I have a hidden badge called "Glued to the floor/ Hand down, man down." Hands up animation doesn't do much in the paint if the guy is coming at you. But it is effective against shooters (relatively...I've had a lot of questionable shots fall in my face, but defense is hardly broken.).


Again, my complaints about triangle/y button effectiveness are only valid when I'm in good defensive position. When I am beat, I don't expect to get a good contest animation, or one that changes the shot. That's basketball. But when a guy drives into me and scores because he beat me to an animation, that doesn't feel right.

Why 50 and not 100?

Anticipation is good and all but sometimes you character just refuses to jump or jumps 3 seconds later.
