Re: Player Archetypes NBA 2k17

Not sure if i mentioned mine but here goes. I LOVE defense. I prefer it over offense any day. Offensive players? They're everywhere. Lockdown Defenders? VERY rare. I hope as many people say that it isn't weak compared to others. It will probably depend on how effective defense is this year. Let me also add. That while my guy will only have the highest offensive stat at 13. He does have 25 agility and 24 strength. These 2 stats could potentially compensate for a lot of weaknesses. Mixed with the size of a SF - according to some leaks bigger players with a lot of strength will easily backdown smaller or thinner players. That could help a lot. And one of my favorites - he has 17 rebounding. I love rebounding and i will enjoy being a threat there along with my other bigs. Infact after my lockdown defender i will be making a glass cleaner PF. And potentially after that a playmaker or a point forward. As you can see i am more of a do the dirty work guy than a offensive minded guy.

I looked at the lockdown defenders and since they are the ONLY people that can max out defense they could be very interesting. That is one I'm NOT going to jump on and have to wait and see. They WILL stand out A LOT on defense though, especially a rim protector or perimeter defender. Multiple steals and multiple blocks can really sway a game. It's just that 9/25 ball handling, 13/25 layups/dunks and 11/25 mid-range shooting means. They can't drive in half court even if they are fast AND they can't shoot. Even if they are strong and back you down they have AVERAGE post scoring with a 14/25... so it's 50/50.

With 17 rebound they will be able to rebound and with HIGH strength they will able to get position so they could possible help on the boards or tip-in offense boards to score. If they do steal the ball on the perimeter and have a CLEAN open court to score on the fastbreak they COULD do that.

I honestly believe they deserve a boost in layups and playmaking to at least 15 out of 25 and then I would be comfortable with them but until then...

A glass cleaner with their 20/25 layups and dunks is slightly better, they still have 18 agility and 18/25 defense but just having that ability to finish layups and dunks at 20/25 is huge.

I thought that in my mind when I typed that... but I don't know.. both centers will have 18/25 on defense and every shot would be ONE and DONE cuz those two glass cleaning centers WILL SECURE THE REBOUND.

BUT.... the two sharpshooting guards, PG and SG will get killed in transition because they will be on the slower end with average D and get killed from the perimeter.

So high percentage threes and high percentage layups in transition (which don't need to be rebounded).

So in SHORT.. yea it probably is a defensive liability. Your right.

Pros:
1. Speed. I love Anthony Davis' game, how he uses agility to finish, not strength.
2. Playmaking. If left open in the midrange after setting a screen, I want him to pass like Joakim Noah, or take a dribble inside to finish with a floater.
3. Gravity inside. Due to elite agility and vertical, he shouldnt be left open inside, otherwise will slam the oop.
4. Great synergy of badges. Pick and roller, posterizer, tear dropper, and lob city finisher synergize to make him an elite roll man or an offense unto himself (high playmaking and tear dropper). One man fast break allows him to blitz on unsuspecting defenders.

Cons:
1. Weak. Bullied on defensive end from strong interior scorers.
2. Rebounding. 12 bars, low strength in exchange for high agility.

I'm hoping a long wingspan will mitigate getting bullied inside and being pushed out of position for rebounding.
Low contact dunk rating from low strength should be remedied by gold tear dropper badge and elite speed.

I see him as a glass cannon, an elite finisher on offense, and potential defensive liability on defense. I think i'll have a lot of fun playing this unique build.
Closest NBA player i can think of would be Thon Maker

Yep yep - i know - they just seem unbalanced. Underpowered. But i still believe the balance may come from gameplay improvements. I'm still confused if strength is only for post and box out this year. I honestly believe it should impact screens and overall defense in terms of not being easy to clash with. I'm still a bit mad that they don't have the bruiser badge. If its like previous years where it drains stamina upon contact that could have been very powerful. As for their badges. They don't have eraser either grrr. I will be interested in the effectiveness of charge card and defensive stopper. Chasedown bllck is very situational but could be effective with the 25 agility and probably high block. And pick pocket will be interesting as well. Pick dodger would be very valuable if strength affected screens. Through those changes the game could be balanced. Bruiser added - strength affecting screens - charge card being valuable - chasedown providing some effective fastbreak presence. Things like that. I guess we will see - i definitely wish atleast post was 15 - layup 13 - mid 13. But it could also depend the amout of efficiency bronze badges add. Mid range dead eye - relentless finisher and such.

Re: Player Archetypes NBA 2k17

Where they really missed the boat was not having an all arounder type. Maybe no tower to 25 and defense better than any of the non-lockdown guys could get. Say 20 but with better offensive towers that the lockdown and also not as much rebounding/strength/agility as lockdown, with no tower being over 20.
