Penn State Runs Over Rice 34-20

Duane Picks Up First Win At Penn State

Houston, TX (AP) –
It wasn’t a masterpiece but K.C. Duane will take it.

The Penn State coach was happy with his team’s performance in the first half as the Nittany Lions roared to a 31-17 halftime lead but with only a field goal to show in the second half left a sour taste in Duane’s mouth.

“If we want to be a great team, we need to play four quarters – not two. It’s about the process and we played poorly in the second half,” explained Duane.

The Penn State defence accounted for two touchdowns as CB Brennan Scruggs (SR; Torrington, CT) had an 87 yard interception return for a major while DE Chad Sharpe (Snellville, GA) picked up a fumbled and ran 20 yards for another.

QB Ty Wheatley (JR; Franklin Park, PA) bounced back after a poor opener at South Bend last week by throwing for 280 yards and two touchdowns – including a 68 yard strike to WR Damian Fulton (SR; Galion, GA).

THE LIONS DEN: LB Pat Henry (SO; Parma, OH) led the defence with 11 tackles with three for losses. The Nittany Lions injured list grew as CB Dave Wallace (SO; Hallindale, FL) – the team’s nickel back – missed the game with a groin injury. He joins C Michael Parker (FR; Walker, MI), who has a knee injury and RB Kevin Bell (SR; Dormont, PA), who is suffering from a strained calf.

Re: How is your dynasty going

My reboot of a Wyoming dynasty is creeping into the middle of Year 3. Here's my thread for it: http://www.operationsports.com/forum...ncaa-14-a.html

After a losing record in year 1, Wyoming capitalized on a team full of juniors and seniors to go 11-2 in year 2 with a MWC title and a Las Vegas Bowl win over Cal. Year 3 started poorly with losing shootouts to Tulsa and Wazzu, but 4 wins in a row (Missouri, Colorado State, Nevada, and Fresno State) have us in the conference hunt for a second straight year. BYU and Idaho also joined the Mountain West for the current season.

Played years 1 and 2 with a shotgun spread offense and a 4-3 defense, but the coaching carousel brought in Arkansas' old OC and a DC that runs a 3-4 multiple front. Using those new playbooks has made things interesting.

In 2 of 3 years, the game has gifted me a 5* recruit in my home state. According to my house rules, any home state recruits are fair targets, but I haven't been able to close the deal. Ohio State keeps invading my turf with massive bonus points--they snatched a 5* DT (#2 DT) in year 1 and they are about to do the same with a 5* WR (#1 WR) this time around. My only hope is that OSU, Texas, and Notre Dame (all are closing in after I built my pathetic, early lead) keep each other at bay and I can swoop in with a timely lockpick, lol.

#3 Minnesota Victorious At Penn State

Golden Gophers Win 30-17

College Park, PA (AP) –

"We didn’t have an answer. And when we did, they changed the question.”

That’s how Penn State head coach K.C. Duane described his team’s 30-17 defeat to the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday before 80,567 fans at Beaver Stadium.

Minnesota RB Aaron Anderson (SR; Merritt Island, FL) rushed for 190 yards on 21 carries as the Gophers gouged the Penn State defence.

“The sad part is we have the talent to play much better than that. We have four seniors on the defensive line – four really good seniors who need to lead by example,” noted Duane, whose team dropped to 1-2 (0-1).

QB Ty Wheatley (JR; Franklin Park, PA) aired it out as the Nittany Lions played catch up in the second half after facing a 17-3 halftime deficit. Wheatley went 28 for 50 with 262 yards passing in a losing cause.

THE LIONS DEN: The Lions were without the services of two suspended players. DE Paul Miller (SO; Cranford, NJ) and WR Cole Goodman (SO; Colonia, NJ) were arrested after an incident at an Atlantic City casino during the team’s day off following the Rice game. They will be suspended until the local authorities conclude their investigation.

Penn State Squeaks by Purdue 34-27
Nittany Lions Hang On For Win

West Lafayette, IN (AP) –

They say any time you win on the road in the NCAA, that it’s a good thing.

That expression may be true but don’t tell that to Penn State head coach K.C. Duane, whose Nittany Lions edged the Purdue Boilermakers by a 34-27 score Saturday at Ross-Ade Stadium.

“We won but we’re still not playing championship caliber football. If we play like this against the big boys in our conference, we’ll get our butts kicked. We need more consistency,” said Duane.

Consistency wasn’t an issue for Penn State QB Ty Wheatley (JR; Franklin Park, PA), who went 32 for 41 with 388 yards and two touchdowns. “I’m feeling it now. The game seems so slow. Hopefully we can keep it going on offence,” said Wheatley.

The Nittany Lions got major contributions from others on offence as well. HB Corey Griffin (SR; Chester, SC) ran for 101 yards while WR Dustin Rivers (SR; N Richland Hills, TX) caught nine passes for 104 yards – including a 37 yarder for a touchdown. TE Danny Stafford (SR; Pryor Creek, OK) hauled in seven passes for 113 yards.

THE LIONS DEN: In an attempt to kick start the running game, Duane named HB Donny Smith (SO; Lindenwold, NJ) the starter at the beginning of the week. Smith, however, suffered a high ankle sprain during Tuesday’s practice and is out indefinitely. QB Josh Harris (SO; Rutherford, NJ) didn’t dress for the game as he was dealing with a family emergency. The Nittany Lions secondary woes continue as Purdue QB Brendan Sanders (JR; Russellville, KY) threw for 368 yards.

Re: How is your dynasty going

Billie Wettest's #12 UMass Minutemen took on NC State at the Wolfpack's stadium, Carter-Finley, packed to the brim to watch Tyson Dickerson and John Owens continue their Heisman runs.

Continue they did. Owens busted his first run of the game for a long touchdown. We sacked Manny Stocker twice and got the ball back.
Owens immediately ripped off another 50+ yard run, which led to a dime from Dickerson to senior receiver Bernard Davis for a 30 yard TD.

On our next posession, Dickerson threw a 39 yarder to Davis.

We continued to dominate in a 52-7 win. NC State did their best, but they couldn't keep up with a team that is among the nation's elite.

Two more commits came in this week, but the star is still 5* RB Dennis Cannon.

Next week, UMass takes on our primary rival in BC, at home, with about 10 recruits visiting. Stay tuned.

UMASS NO MATCH FOR PENN STATE

Nittany Lions Come Up With 34-16 Win

College Park, PA (AP) –

The UMass Minutemen may have outgained the Penn State Nittany Lions in total yardage (455-380) but in the end, the only numbers that mattered were the ones on the scoreboard at Beaver Stadium.

At the end of the night, coach K.C. Duane’s team had prevailed by a 34-16 margin and looked good in the process.

“We kind of called off the dogs a bit at half time and subbed freely in the second half. When you have a 31-13 half time lead, you can do those things,” said Duane.

QB Ty Wheatley (JR; Franklin Park, PA) continued his solid play, going 26 for 32 with 274 yards passing and one touchdown. HB Corey Griffin (JR; Chester, PA) cracked the 100 yard barrier (103) and added a touchdown – a week after being demoted but regaining his job after injury.

THE LIONS DEN: The Nittany Lions injuries continue to mount as WR Dustin Rivers (SR; North Richland Hills, TN) is out indefinitely with a concussion. Rivers racked up 33 catches for 380 yards and a touchdown before getting hurt during practice in a collision. The Nittany Lions improved to 3-2 (1-1).

PENN STATE LOSES COACH BUT WINS GAME

K.C. Duane Ejected In 55-29 Win Over Maryland

College Park, PA (AP) –

Penn State Head Coach K.C. Duane didn’t like the fact that the officiating crew wasn’t doing enough to protect QB Ty Wheatley (JR; Franklin Park, PA) during his team’s 55-29 win against Maryland, so he let them know it.

They then let him know that he was ejected from the game late in the fourth quarter.

“Complete B.S. The system is wrong when we can’t just play the game normally. It’s pretty simple yet somehow things always seem to crash. It’s too bad because it ruins a great product, “ said Duane, who watched the rest of the game on a monitor inside the NIttany Lions locker room.

THE LIONS DEN: It was Penn State’s fourth win of the season – matching the Nittany Lions win totals during the previous two seasons in which the team went 4-8. The nation’s #1 ranked prospect – HB Matthew Robinson (5’10”, 207 lbs; Baldwin, PA) has narrowed his choices down to Penn State and Pitt.
