Re: My Final HC09 Sliders

Yes, regarding the tackles, that was a necessary evil that I came to expect after all my testing. I was trying to juice up the run game, because there was just too many tackles in the backfield, and I needed to give the RBs a chance after the first hit. But as you pointed out correctly, it also gives receivers a chance to break long runs after the catch.

Regarding completion %, the simmed stats I came up with showed an average of 58% of a sample size of 60+ games across all teams (and the confidence interval was small of just a couple percent). The problem I've been seeing on my original slider set is that the defense couldn't stop the pass to save their life. I was constantly at the bottom of the defensive ranking year after year, even though I had great D players and defensive coaches. What I was observing was there were just too many completions in the deep passing game. What I've learned is that the QA slider really impacts the accuracy on the deep ball, which is why I've been playing with it.

Without a doubt you have a good point on the tackles, but there are two things that I worry about when tampering with the tackling slider: 1) it may hurt the run game; and 2) it may ruin the whole set (as I've mentioned above, you change one slider one notch and you can get a different experience. Nonetheless, reading your post has gotten me thinking of some ideas...I'm trying a couple slider sets right now, but if those don't pan out, I may test some with the tackling. More to come...

Re: My Final HC09 Sliders

So, I did a ton of testing over the past couple days, and I have to share a very interesting experience with the sliders. I've learned there are two game speeds -- "normal" and "fast." And if you literally change one slider, one point you can completely change the game speed and impact an entire side of the ball or portion of the game.

For instance, one of my pet peeves with my sliders is that there are way too many INTs. So, I lowered both INT sliders to 10. Suddenly, the CPU was kicking my *** all over the place. They were flying around the field and picking me off and my run game was awful. So I moved the INT slider for Human = 1 and CPU = 10. Suddenly, the game slows down, and now I'm beating the computer badly...they can't run, and their pass game sucks. My team isn't much better, but I'm at least moving the ball. Then I moved the CPU INT slider to 40, and again, the entire game shifts. Mind you, I did this against the exact same team each time.

So, I've come up with two new slider sets that I'm testing -- one with the game speed "normal" and the other with the game speed "fast." I've seen good results with both of them so far...I've had more realistic scoring, the INTs are down, I can actually stop the pass now and then, and the run game is still good...but I need to test each one out over several games against different teams. So more to come...

When I was watching the game last night (Saints versus Texans), I felt like the completion percentage was about right (though I didn't actually look at the numbers). The thing that stood out to me was the YAC. I know you said that this set would be heavy with broken tackles, and it is. But I wonder if there's a slight modification there that could be made.

I know the NCAA/Madden series had a big problem with the defense taking wrong angles to the ball carrier around the 09 / 10 time period. It's obvious that problem is in this game. But I do wonder if your sliders have amplified it slightly, because I see a lot more big runs / "how'd he not get tackled" moments than I'd expect.

All that being said, it was a high scoring game but I still enjoyed it.
JeffHCross, if you ever have the chance, I'd love to see what stats you're getting on some games using my sliders. The stats I'm most interested in are:

Pass %
INTs
Avg. Yards per Pass
Sacks
Rushing Yards
Avg. Yards per Rush
Drops
Knockdowns
Defensive TDs
Score

No worries if you don't want to bother. I'm just curious to see what someone else is getting using a different team, etc.

How many games would you want to see? I always had really big scores when I used it, but I always thought it was because I had a good coaching staff and ran the Michigan Spread.

As many as you want to share. You're doing me a favor, so it's up to how much time you have!

Re: My Final HC09 Sliders

Thanks, this helps. The offensive stats seem a little high, which is what I've been getting, but perhaps that's just one game. Let me know if you keep getting similar stats or if you get any that show a more defensive game.

Yesterday I tried several different new sets to try and tone down the offense without impacting the overall competitiveness that I like with my sliders, but regardless of what I come up with, either the game plays on "hyper" speed and the offense is unstoppable or the game plays slower and I kick the CPUs but all the time.

I still have a few more ideas up my sleeve, but it's incredibly frustrating where you change one slider and it impacts the entire gameplay on both sides of the ball instead of what it's supposed to affect.
