Using the first definition I think I'd go with Final Fantasy VIII. It was a critical let down after the success of Final Fantasy 7, but it's probably my favorite game of the series. The heavy emphasis on a great story and the individual characters of that story make me forgive the illogical magic system.

Using the ladder definition that is more common in this thread...that's a tough one. I can't really think of a game that received a lot of praise that I just hated. I'd say maybe something like GTA V, which although it was a solid game with many things to do, I just never felt like it was worthy of the hype.
There's a thread for that here: https://forums.operationsports.com/f...y-enjoyed.html

Tried to give Vice City a chance, again. I don't know how people enjoy this game. This has got to be some of the worst mission design I've ever seen in a video game. The one game that rivals such terrible design is GTA 3, ironically enough.

Un-installing this game. Good riddance.

Um, it's like 16 years old 🤷🏾*♂️ lol.

I feel like this topic had good intentions but is too loaded. Some of the games sucked as much then as they do not, but they were innovative, or new at that time. Not to mention, again, VC is like 16 years old; how many things do you feel the same about now that you did 16 years ago?

Sorry to be that guy, y'all.

I had really high expectations going into that game after everyone raved about it for a year or two so when I finally played it I enjoyed it at first. The graphics and polish were great, but by the third time booting it up I just couldn't wait to beat it and be done with it. It really was not a fun game at all for me.
Man this makes me feel like such a loser lol. I gave up on TLOU because I simply could not beat one of the levels that was still decently early in the game. I've never really had any issues beating games before TLOU, including beating all of the Uncharted games pretty easily (only mention it because it's the same developer).

I must have attempted the same level in TLOU at least 50 times before I finally gave up and never returned to the game.

Growing up I was a big fan of a lot of the old Star Wars games from Lucasarts. For every Jedi Knight or Republic Commando there was a Bounty Hunter or Droid Works.

Yes. Praying the next GTA goes back to that time period for the music alone.

Borderlands The Pre-sequel. Loved the first two and was expecting greatness, but could not get into it with the stupid air breathing mechanic.
