Tell me about ootp

So I’ve never played this game and I just heard about it. I like playing mlb the show. But I love serious in depth games and this seems like one. This is pc only correct? Do I need a good pc to run it or just something average? Basically I’m just looking for any info before I possibly buy this. Thanks guys!

You don't need a gaming computer to run the game. If you have a fairly recent laptop, you should be fine.

The game is mostly text based but there are some animations that are visible if you choose to watch or manage games.

You take control of a team as either the GM or GM and manager and can be responsible for everything from lineup setups to rule 5 draft picks for all levels of your organization. There are many different levels of control that you can customize. I play as GM only, and allow my assistant GM to handle most of my minor league transactions unless there is a big prospect I’m keeping my eye on.
There is also a very in depth customization suite to create your own league or even baseball world.
I would say OOTP is significantly more difficult than MLBTS Franchise, but there are ways to take advantage of the computer or allow yourself to “cheat” to make it easier.
You can run the text part of the game on nearly any computer, my laptop doesn’t have a graphics card capable of viewing the animated games, you just have to check the requirements.

Ideally you have a SSD for the game but I don't and it runs really well. They improved it s lot last year and it ran faster than ever for me.

Same. I run OOTP on a USB external HDD, so not even connected to the motherboard and no problems at all with simming, saving/loading, backing up to another external USB HDD, etc.

Decent PC by today's standards (it's going on 7 years old now) with the newest and only upgraded internal is the GPU (GTX 970), which OOTP probably doesn't even use.

Ootp is a text based game so it's not hard on your gpu, processing the sheer amount of data is the only potential bottleneck but even then I doubt you would see a problem as long as your pc is like at least win7 generation or newer.

The game itself is incredibly deep. As a text Sim it has to be. You can 'play' a game which really just means you give basic commands that are then simulated (swing away, bunt, intentional walk, etc), though still enjoyable.

The game shines in its ability to make you feel like a gm. You will have a budget that is dependent on your teams ownership, you have both your big league club and an entire farm system (down to Rookie ball) to manage. You can automate anything you feel is too much, but it's there if you want it.

So yeah. Basically just imagine that you are made GM of an mlb team with full control over team resources and all the many things you could potentially think a gm should be able to do. That is Ootp in a nutshell.

If you play MLB the Show 19 Franchise and feel like you need alot more depth and realism from a team-building standpoint, then I’d say give it a try.

For people that love stats, it will scratch the itch. You can access every possible stat you can think of on any and every player in MLB history, as well as all of the stats that are continuing to accrue through the seasons you play. I can lose an hour or two just looking through individual players and their stats throughout the league and over the years.

I bought OOTP 18, and it was my first time playing it. I was frustrated with the depth of franchise mode in the Show. The gameplay was awesome but the rest of the mode wasn’t moving in the direction I wanted it to. So I gave it a try, and honestly didn’t think I’d enjoy it all that much because I’ve always liked to actually play the games. But I loved it, I ended up playing 3-4 months straight almost exclusively. And to this day am still playing it somewhat regularly, but now the 2019 version.

For the true baseball fan and someone who enjoys team building, there is plenty to keep you entertained despite not being able to physically play the games.

That does sound really good, I’m huge into realism and depth, I used to play baseball and I know a few minor leaguers who are friends so the idea of this game sounds great!
