Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

I remember when I was technically 17+ with my cousin trying to celebrate bday stuff at Showbiz Pizza (yep I'm that old), they wouldn't let me in because I was 17 and I argued for 5 minutes that the second after I hit 17 I'm now over 17, to no avail

irony is we ended up going to see Fight Club instead

I'm not sure I understand...you have to be over or under 17 to get into Showbiz? That place is filled with nothing but 8-9 year olds running around eating crappy pizza. What was the dispute?

I'd assume a minor has to be accompanied by an adult. Otherwise, they'd have a bunch of junior high kids hanging out there and overrunning the place.

My opinion is most everyone is 9 months older than their actual birthday. Arbitrarily picking a random number and saying you have to be *this* age to do something is asinine. Like for instance, saying you have to be at least 36 years old to be president is stupid. Age is just a number because there are 80 year old people with 80 years of lifetime experiences that still aren't qualified to actually be president. Same for being 21 to drink, there are 40 year old people who shouldn't be allowed to drink.

When I have no less than 75 tabs open from umpteen different windows, and sound (be it music, an ad, a live breaking news pop-up, etc.) starts playing from ONE of them, and I can't figure out which one it is.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

When people share "hacks/tips" for something that just ruins it for others.

For instance, let's say you're on vacation and there's a nice hidden gem of a location that most don't know about and it's not busy. Then someone blabs online about this "hidden gem" they found and now everyone knows so it's no longer hidden or not crowded.

Or one thing I saw in the news recently. Someone found a "loophole" in the transit system transfers that allows you to go from certain places to other places while not paying extra fares (its legal). Why come out about that? Now everyone's gonna do it or the transit company is gonna fix that loophole.

I've also found a loophole which gets me free transfers but I'm never sharing that with anyone and doesn't seem like anyone else has ever discovered it.

Even at my work, people found a loophole in the clock in machines about how it rounds up/down at certain times so everyone does it (show up 5 mins late to work and leave 5 mins early and it still counts it as a full 8 hours). Managers all know that trick too, but everyone has an unwritten agreement to make sure payroll and higher up's don't know about it. Another one is "if you're late, dont clock in and just say you forgot". If you do it a lot they'll catch on, but if you're late once in a while you can do that and still get paid the full day without anyone knowing you're late. Similarly with leaving early. I've left before 3pm so many times and said I forgot to clock out and just get paid till end of day anyways.

Speaking of which, I think I "ruined" something for others once (in a weird way, I'll explain).

I would get e-mails from some site... I forget the name, Coupon Cabin maybe? Anyway, it would be something where you could get like $100 gift cards from Amazon or something of the sort, but you had to be the first to click on the deal right when it becomes active. I tried for a couple of weeks to be one to claim it, but always to be beat. It's one of those instantaneous things where you either luck out or you don't, so you're rapid-fire clicking the seconds before it becomes active and hope for the best.

Anyway, so I thought of something: I'll find software that turbo-clicks for my mouse when I hold down my click. I downloaded something and I was able to generate "1000 clicks per second," or something of the sort. So I tried that the next opportunity on the gift card offering. Apparently I clicked so much that if you get it, a pop-up window comes on the screen, and I got hundreds of them flying at the same time. There were so many that it pretty much crashed my computer, and I had to restart it. Since I never got to get into a part to enter my information, I basically probably stole all of the claims and then some.

They likely caught wind of the matter that one person was able to auto-generate and steal all of the claims, so they changed up their infrastructure the very next day. When I tried the same thing next time, if you click before the offer becomes active, a dialogue box appears that you have to "OK" and close out before clicking again, and it's in a different spot on the screen. It basically prevented somebody from doing what I did.

I'm not going to say I ruined it for everybody, but I absolutely changed it so nobody could do what I did anymore, and it changed the pre-time clicking game of it all.

Now, something unrelated to that, I love as a teacher when I forget to stamp/collect something, and then near the end of the period there is that one student that says: "Are you still going to collect this thing?" I go: "Oh yes, thanks for reminding me! Everyone, turn in blah blah assignment." Everyone else ends up ragging on that one student. It's hilarious! Heaven forbid they responsibly did the assignment and want to be acknowledged for it, shame on the rest for not getting it done.
