Anyone read anything by Brad Thor? If so, how does he compare to others in the genre?

Can anyone recommend something that is post-apocalyptic? Any type really. I am a fan of the Fallout games though.

Re: OS Book Club Pt II

Started reading "The Right Stuff" by Tom Wolfe a few nights ago. It's about the start of the US space program, and is focused around the original Mercury astronauts. Not a bad book so far, but the writing is a bit too colorful for my tastes. Too much, "Wow, that's amazing!" on every single page. If he had tuned that down a little bit, I'd definitely be loving it.

Starting A Game of Thrones now. I thought the TV series has been good so far, so I am hoping this is good as well. I am surprised that they got a whole season (10 episodes) out of a 700ish page book though.

Re: OS Book Club Pt II

Just got done reading Pursuit by Clint Johnson, which is about the final days of the Confederacy and the chase and capture of Jefferson Davis. It's an interesting book, but he defiantly takes a Southerner's view of the entire details and conveniently leaves out details (such as why Davis really had a black kid in the first place). Still, it's an interesting book.

I've also finished Seasons in Hell by Mike Shropshire. Again, it has "flare" from the author, but it really describes some of the pain that Texas Rangers fans have gone through, especially during the seventies. Some of the stories that he tells are classics (such as the hot dogs at Spring Training and Bernie Brewer stealing Rangers' signs at Milwaukee County Stadium).

Right now I'm reading A Country of Vast Designs by Robert Merry. I don't know much about the Polk Presidency, but if this book is much the same way as Theodore Rex was, I'm going to be sucked in. After this one, I'm going to need to go to Half Priced Books again...
