Re: OS Book Club Pt II

Finished up Stephen King's The Shining last week. Absolutely amazing and chilling novel.

Started reading It last night and am now working my way through that. Guess I'm on a Stephen King kick right now, which doesn't surprise me given the time of year. I'm a sucker for a good horror yarn.

As someone who has read 23 different Stephen King novels this year, those are my two favorites. Both are incredible books, with The Shining winning as my favorite book of all time.

You'd think I'd have read more of his books seeing as grew up in and currently reside in Bangor, ME just a couple streets over from where he lives. But for some reason, I've never gotten into his books until now. I remember trying to read The Stand years ago, and it just seemed so unfocused to me that I put it down.

And yeah, The Shining was up there with my favorite books of all time. Have you read Dr. Sleep yet? I hear it's pretty good.

Nope. Planning on taking a trip to the bookstore this week for that and a few others.

I think my top five from him are: The Shining, It, The Stand, Green Mile, The Long Walk.

Nice, let me know how it is. I'm sure I'll still be reading It, given that it's approximately 9 billion pages long.

Yeah, It is a long book - awesome, though. Lot of good story in there. I need to watch the movie.

Have you read any of his son's work? Joe Hill's "Heart Shaped Box" is the best horror novel you've (probably) never heard of haha.

I'm only a couple hundred pages in, but it has been excellent so far.

And no, I've never read any of his stuff. I'll have to check it out.

The ending gets a little ridiculous, as King's tend to do, but it's such a good ride with some amazingly well done characters and growth.

And check out Heart Shaped Box. "Horns" isn't as good, but HSB is the only book I've had to stop reading because it was 1am and I was actually scared.
