I'm extremely poor at thinking on my feet but I actually came up with something, I said "oh I have a broken tracfone I can't even make outgoing calls". He asks if he can make a text. I said "I'm sorry, I can't help you, sorry, man".

Am I a jerk?

That was my initial thought.

I was right not to lend new dude my phone, right? I'm not a jerk?
you ought to keep a roladex of excuses just in case, so you don't get caught off guard again. here, I'll donate to the cause some that I use:

1 | my wife (husband/girlfriend/boyfriend) borrowed it and took it with her/him.
2 | I dropped it in the toilet so I have in the oven to dry it out.
3 | my mom grounded me and took it away
4 | sell crazy some place else, we're all stocked up here. (borrowed from Melvin Udall)
5 | (speaking in gibberish) pfft click click srzipy no srzipy speky engrish.
6 | sorry my phone is completely out of seconds, I don't even have 1 partial minute left.
7 | Dave's not here, man

My point is that if you guys have been neighbors for a year, he would recognize that you are his neighbor and not ask you where you lived.

Not necessarily. He's across the street, maybe four houses down. He should know me because I wash my car every weekend, but I'm not otherwise always mingling with everyone around my street either. If I were asked to identify the next door gentlemen to my left in a lineup of five individuals, I wouldn't be able to tell you which one he was.

He was asking me because I guess he didn't actually know that I really lived here.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

How is it that you and I both saw the same exact reviews within the past 24 hours?

Oh ok..I thought you were next door neighbors.

Anyways, It's been a while since I've had neighbors so I don't know how any of that social interacting works anymore..

You just give a wave and hope they don’t want to really talk.
