Newcastle Signs One For Now...

Newcastle skipper Alan Shearer today announced the signing of CDM Fegor Ogude from Norwegian side Valerenga. Ogude is a fast, strong, defensive midfielder that is expected to add depth as Shearer contemplates using a 4-2-3-1 formation instead of his 4-4-2. The team is now extremely deep at CDM, with Chiek Tiote, Zdravko Kuzmanovic, Mubarak Wakaso, and Ogude. The Toon paid $9.5 million for the Nigerian international.

And One For the Future...

Shearer also announced the team has come to an agreement with Leicester City for GK Kaspar Schmeichel. Schmeichel will spend the rest of the season with Leicester before joining Newcastle during the summer. Schmeicel will have a chance to compete with Lukasz Fabianski to replace Steve Harper, who is retiring at the end of the season. Shearer said the club will pay $7.5 million to obtain Schmeicel from Leicester, who is trying to dump players as their relegation looks iminent.

Jelen: "I'm done playing for Newcastle"

ST Ireneuz Jelen told reporters today that he is done playing for Newcastle. The club tried to sell the disgruntled Polish striker during the January transfer window, but found no takers. Jelen has only played in 5 games this season and has yet to find the score sheet in the Premier League. At this point, Alan Shearer is looking to sell Jelen for anything he can get.
