2023 Spring Training Thread

Ok I know we're 10 days away from Spring Training games starting, but I thought we could go ahead and start the Spring Training thread, well simply because I'm excited for the return of baseball.

Pitchers and catchers have reported (at least most if not all), so we can maybe find things to talk about until the games start on the 24th.

I'll toss out the first pitch by mentioning how its odd not seeing Wainwright and Yadi in the early ST photos from Cardinals camp. Hoping that Wainwright, and the rest of the staff can get in sync with Willson Contreras quickly this Spring.

Excited to see how Moises Gomez (OF), Ivan Herrera (C), Jordan Walker (3B/OF) and Mason Wynn (SS/2B) perform at camp this Spring.

Not yet ST games, so you know what that means?

It's "gained muscle", "in the best shape of his life", "rehabbed injuries" season!

Re: 2023 Spring Training Thread

skipping ahead for just one hot minute to end of ST talk,
I wish there was a way to play one last ST game every ST where the Grapefruit winner plays the Cactus winner

and back to start of ST talk, next Fridays games number just two, and while I dont think it will happen, I'd still like to se MLB Network carry one of those two games

I’m heading to Florida for a week next week for the Mets spring training, hoping to catch a game in Jupiter too when they play the Cards.

Too bad the Mets don't play the Pirates in spring training. I'm not driving cross state to Bradenton.

Yeah I hate how their entire schedule is more or less just against four teams

Re: 2023 Spring Training Thread

According to FanGraphs, two teams are projected to be worse than the Reds...

The Nationals and the A's.

It's the little victories (we're not last!).

Personally, I'm excited to see some of our young studs. Just don't mention that on any of the official Reds socials, or you'll get hit hard by the "rebuilding since 1990" crowd (even though we have three division crowns and five playoff appearances since then and this is actually the first time the Reds went all-in with a rebuild).

Our main questions heading into the season...

#1 - Will any of our top prospects make the squad out of spring training?
#2 - Will Lodolo and Green continue to progress or will they have sophomore slumps?
#3 - Will India bounce back from his sophomore slump after winning ROTY in 2021?
#4 - In Joey Votto's swan song, will he have one last glimmer of summer in that aging body or will it break for good?
#5 - Will Nick Senzel finally have a healthy season? Seriously, goes from the #1 prospect to the most snake-bitten man ever.

2019 - 104 games (Torn labrum)
2020 - 23 games (Covid)
2021 - 36 games ("knee inflammation" that ended up requiring surgery)
2022 - 110 games (Back injury & Broken toe)
