A little disappointed that Biggio didn't make it, as I thought he deserved it more then the other first time nominees.

Re: 2013 Hall of Fame Ballot Discussion

I feel the same as someone else a few pages back did about Piazza.

I don't recall his name ever being seriously brought up in steroid talks. Why isn't he in the Hall of Fame?

and if these guys aren't going to vote for anyone from this era, they need to start giving guys like Dale Murphy, Fred McGriff, & Edgar Martinez a serious look. They put up numbers better than countless guys who are in the Hall. I don't understand the logic of "he didn't win an MVP!". If all of the writers are in agreement that the best players were on steroids, and those were the guys winning the MVPs, then how can you penalize a guy for staying clean, and losing out to the users?

Re: 2013 Hall of Fame Ballot Discussion

Starting this year and the next few years going forward there will be more HOF'rs on the ballot at one time than probably since the HOF's first class (see Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine, Thomas, Johnson, Martinez in the next year or two) and we have writers who act like a 2-year old throwing a tantrum...embarrassing.

These same writers who are now on their high moral horse were the same writers who completely botched the PED story in the first place...now they compound that mistake with this.

I wonder how many of the "He didn't win an MVP" crowd voted for Jack "He didn't win a Cy Young" Morris.

But if Jack had known those matter he would have won some...it's easy to see that.

Re: 2013 Hall of Fame Ballot Discussion

So what are the odds Edgar Martinez ever gets in? I dont follow the logic behind voting but I thought I remembered hearing that guys who spent their entire career at DH got penalized and struggled to get into the hall. Id love to see Edgar and Piazza get in, and I have faith Piazza will get in eventually, but am curious on the outlook for Edgar.

Does anyone know the specific timeline of the steroid era? ~1995-2005ish ?

Martinez is never getting in. His only chance would have been to have played against NY every day. Piazza is getting screwed here. Hopefully next year they decide to let one of the top 5 hitting catchers of all time into The Hall.
