Re: 2016 World Series: Chicago Cubs vs. Cleveland Indians

There are a lot of cool things about this series but I think the one thing that will be of most interest to me and others who enjoy the strategic aspect of the game is the role both managers will have. Terry Francona has shown this postseason that he will do ANYTHING with his pitching staff in order to win. Now a lot of that is due to circumstances but most managers wouldn't be as creative as he has so far. Maddon is just as quirky and creative as well so we can see some very interesting managerial moves on both sides.

What I saw from Cleveland throughout this playoffs has impressed me. That's a very tight knit bunch there and this WS should be the coming out party for Francisco Lindor. I also think there's going to be an interesting situation in regards to the catcher position in Cleveland as Roberto Perez has displayed an ability to call a great game and frame pitches well.

Either way, no matter who wins it'll be a fantastic story for baseball. As I said in the ALCS thread the team that's beaten the Blue Jays in their playoff history has gone on to win the WS so if we're going by that metric it'll be Cleveland

Re: 2016 World Series: Chicago Cubs vs. Cleveland Indians

This was the World Series matchup I said I wanted to see months ago and it is happening. Beyond excited to see 2 new teams in the World Series. Been the same few postseason teams the past few years and this is a beyond fresh matchup.

I am fine if Cleveland wins it all, but any fan of baseball (besides Indians fans) would be crazy to not want to see the Cubs win it all with that enormous drought they have had.

I think the series goes all 7 games. Can't wait.

I must be crazy, then.

Cubs winning it all would be fine. I'd be genuinely happy for Theo, Lester and Ross. But the Cubs losing in the World Series is what I want most. Seeing all the hurt on their fans faces would be the ultimate.

Most of all I want a competitive Series with no controversy to ruin things.

Why? A bit harsh, no?

Cool sidenote to this series. Indians 2B Jason Kipnis is from Chicago. I know his brother and some of his family, and they're all Cubs diehards. I'm sure they're rooting for Cleveland in the series, but this has got to be the ultimate win-win situation for that family. Either Jason wins a WS, or they get to witness a Cubs World Series victory.

Of the 30+ ESPN "experts" to give postseason picks, Mets writer Adam Rubin was the only one to predict a Cubs/Indians Fall Classic.

Not terribly interesting. Someone was bound to make that pick, right? But Rubin was also the only ESPN writer to predict a Mets/Royals World Series last year, so kudos to him and his guesswork.

Thing is, he picked the Mets to win last year. Who did he pick this year?

Clearly, they're rooting against Chicago to make sure Cubs fans don't become as reviled across the sports world as Red Sox fans are. Quite noble, when you think about it.

EDIT: *obligatory *
