Re: MLB Season/Coronavirus

Joey Votto out today because of self-reporting COVID-19 symptoms. He has not tested positive yet.

Rizzo and Bryant will be out per my sources with cubs. They were already tired of lack of Mlb testing timing and lack of precautions
Rizzo is playing today, Bryant still out but not on IL.

Pretty much everyone is at fault here. The players and union were pretty dumb in denying a bubble. They are also pretty dumb for continuously going out and getting sick and ruining it for the majority of players that are behaving properly.

Manfred is also an idiot who obviously has zero idea on how to be the leader during this period. He has left too much responsibility with the players and it's pretty evident how bad of a decision that was.

Manfred has matched the NCAA in ineptness as a leader. Instead of the NCAA coming together and creating a standard for the football programs to follow and limit risks, Emmert and crew left all of the responsibility with the members. Manfred has done the same thing.

The leaders in sports are a joke and this pandemic is showing how unqualified they all truly are, but nothing will come of it.

Re: MLB Season/Coronavirus

Latest from the Mets is that Cespedes has "opted out". I really wish they'd use consistent terminology because it makes it sound like opting out and electing not to play are different things with different connotations (ie getting paid or not).

So....guess he just left without telling anyone?

Heard that report on-air during the Cubs broadcast btw.

Well he did not tell anyone, so they couldn't say that he opted out. It's basically the same thing as electing not to play but he has the option to opt out this season.

FWIW, the story now on MLB.com says "elects not to play" - same as LoCain was. The guy on the Cubs broadcast who was reporting it was the one who said "opted out".

It's not really a big deal, it just seems to be the difference between whether they are considered high risk, and if they continue to get prorated pay as a result.

Kind of a bad look for Cespedes if he really didn't tell anyone he was leaving.

Probably the main (only?) positive to come out of this. And yeah it's pretty great.
