Re: 2023 Offseason Thread

The one common theme I keep seeing is how teams are "overpaying" for these QBs. Since I was on hiatus I can't say concretely, but I would assume "we" have been having this discussion on the forums for the last 6-10 years now.

At the end of the day, it's not an overpay if multiple teams keep doing it.

Did CLE mess up the system? Maybe. One could argue Minny messed up the system with Cousins. Or maybe they all learned from the salary-cap-less Saints on how rolling money into bonuses, guarantees and endless extensions can actually save you cap space.

Reality is, the best path to a SuperBowl title revolves around a QB on a Rookie Contract, or a legit Superstar who can elevate players around him once his rookie deal is up. Everybody else is just treading water.

The QB market resets virtually anytime a marquee QB gets a new contract. I don't know if QB salaries are rising quicker than the salary cap, but its what creates the perception of overpaid QBs

That's why it makes sense to pay them as soon as you can if you feel he's the guy or plan to replace him. You wait too long and play tag, you end up in the Dak situation where they could have had a "cheaper deal" if they signed him a few years sooner. That was around the time when guys like Wentz was getting $25-30 Million. Now we're starting at $35-40M.

For the Eagles, they should try to get something done with Hurts before the Herbert and Burrow deals fall into place.

Per Schefter, increasing likely that Love is starter in 23.

Definitely seems like. From all the reports, Packers are more than ready to move on from Rodgers. It's time, see what Love has

The salary cap has gone up $36 million since Wentz signed that deal in 2019. This is the bit most don't consider when they think about these salaries inflating as much as they have, not surprising to see the most important position taking a disproportionate amount of increases like that.

Lamar Jackson is a whole different thing though wanting a fully guaranteed deal. Unless someone makes that happen some soul searching is coming his way as he watches Carr, Jones and others sign these massive deals. The $32m franchise tender is a fraction of what he could be earning, and IMO has lost a lot of his bargaining power after 2 back to back seasons unable to be finished due to injury (even more so when it comes to the extraordinary demand for a fully guaranteed deal).

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread

Someone will pay Lamar.

If Rodgers to NYJ doesn’t happen, it’ll be NYJ.

Others to watch, IMO, Indy, Mia and Was.

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread

Has Lamar said that he wants a fully guaranteed deal or is that just the “word” out there and folks are running with it?
