Re: Herr Goodell wants uniformity.

Goodell gets it. Any criticism for this stuff is just short-sighted. The NFL isn't a hip-hop club, and it's not an entitlement forum for players to "express themselves."

The NFL is a professional football league and a revenue-generating business.

Notice how the NFL is the only pro league not at the mercy of its players! There isn't a player in the league that the league can't do without. There's not even 20 collectively that could make a dent in its popularity if they left.

Take Kobe and LeBron out of the NBA. What have you got? Take Pujols, A-Rod, Jeter, and Ichiro out of baseball. Big difference. Crosby is about the only NHL player anyone can name anymore, so tough comparison there.

Thankfully, the NFL has always had the Rozelles, Tagliabues, and Goodells.

I don't see how things like matching tape, pant-cuffs above or below the knee, or sleeve length have anything to do with corporate sponsorship. Many players are obviosly taking voluntary fines because most skill players wear their pants cut off above the knee, and Tomlinson is still wearing his Darth Vader mask.

And I don't find he military comparison to be accurate. The military literally owns you under the scope of the UCMJ. This is not the case with the NFL. Much of bootcamp is spent stripping away individuality, individual habits, and selfish attitudes. The NFL is just a football league chock full of individuality. Individuals make the league exciting. You can have uniformity without micro-managing down the milimeter.

Thank god someone here gets it too!

Seriously why are people upset that the NFL puts a dress code into effect for its players, all of whom make at least what, $375k a year. Pretty much every Fortune 500 corporation is going to have some semblance of a dress code, why not the NFL? The NFL is so successful because it places the focus on the game, not the individual players. Unlike some other leagues no player is bigger than the NFL itself and these rules are how the NFL keeps it that way. When the players are compensated the way they are, they really shouldn't complain about some minor rules that are simple to follow.

Actually a NFL (or any major sports league) contract is very akin to that of the military. The list of activities a player cannot engage in is incredibly long and meant to protect their physical well being for the team. When you are under contract to a pro sports franchise, they essentially own your body for the length of the contract.

Not under threat of prison or Dishonorable Discharge (which affects your livelihood forever after). The NFL can cut you loose or recoup bonus money, but that's about the extent of it.

LT has an eye condition (Dr.'s note) that allows him to wear the visor.

So because "you don't see" it's unequittable for the NFL to impose these rules? You don't have to see, and my guess is it's to promote UNIFORMITY throughout the league.

The NFL owns you too. It controls your welfare. FURTHERMORE...any job owns you unless you're your own boss. Everyone has to conform in some way, shape, or form.

The individual's PLAY makes the league exciting. I could careless how Portis looks w/ his socks on, and the league isn't fining him for his CHARACTERs he dresses up as. So they obviously condone individuality.

The size of the fan (quantity of people) that likes the TD celebrations, and the way certain players LOOK w/ their socks and get-ups pales in comparison to the SELECT group of MILLIONAIRES and FINANCIERS who have DOLLAR VALUE INTEREST in the NFL.

That's the bottom line, money talks, and that same money starts talking to the ones who fall out of line. They eventually fall back in line, and take heed to the fact that they are merely a cog in a business MUCH bigger than them who moves on w/ or w/o them.

*See Stallworthe begging the commish saying he's truly sorry.
*Vick still trying to get back into the NFL.

*See below.

Well we don't make millions of dollars in the military do we?

That's the leverage, whereas in the NFL it's money.

You can't understand that?
