I am not making a judgment either way, I was only explaining why there is a difference between coaches fighting (happens a lot I'd imagine) and a player attacking the head coach.

Good ole Al!! If he hadn't interfered by hiring Hanson in the first place none of this would have happened. Man it's so hard to be a Raiders fan nowadays.

I think we all can read in between the lines as to what J0nnD0ugh is hinting at.

Personally I'm happy that OS hasn't taken the bait as of yet.

Honestly, they're both idiots that deserve punishment for their actions.

Authority figures and coaches are revered. Players, especially players that can be hard to market to the mainstream audience, will always be viewed unfavorably in a situation like Sprewells.

I think the biggest reason is the sport. Fights or violence in the NFL, MLB and NHL are routinely ignored or given far less criticism than the NBA.

Re: Where is the outrage over Tom Cable??

I am going to be very interested in seeing how the NFL handles this. Goodell has been very heavy handed in how he disciplines players so let's see if he treats Cable the same way. The Lions DL coach two years ago was caught naked in a drive-thru and I don't think he was ever suspended by the league. If a player did that he would be busted by Goodell for sure.

Blount of Oregon punches a guy after a frustrating game and didn't even instigate that mess and the whole country wants to ban him from ever playing football again. But Cable's situation is under the radar.

I don't think it's a race thing but I do think people tend to be jealous of athletes (skills, money, preferential treatment, etc) and can't wait to throw the book at them and hold them to higher standards than themselves. Coaches don't fall in to that category. I think a small Texas college coach did a similar thing recently and I'm not sure if anything happened to him either.

The Blount thing just wasn't punching a guy, it was becoming a monster afterwards. He went after fans, cops, his own teammates. Oh, and it was on national television on a very hyped first week college football game. There was never a chance for the Blount incident to be under the radar.

With the Cable situation, we expect things like this out of Oakland. There's also not a lot of backed up facts right now. It's Cable's story vs Hanson's story, unless I've missed some info.

It's an entirely different thing when you punch a dude and go crazy on TV.

No doubt Blount went nuts and being on national TV hurt but aren't we supposed to punish the actions of the players? What difference does it make if one person saw it or one million? That's where the hypocrysy (sp?) of player suspensions gets ridiculous. They drop the hammer because they got embarrassed and not because it was necessarily fair.

Do you think OJ is innocent lol? Seriously, the guy's jaw was broken. That's a fact. He didn't fall out of bed. And there is corroborating evidence from the other coaches even though they haven't gone public. Other than Cable lying to save his own skin, nobody has refuted this guy's claims.
