Freeman named starter

from the Bucs website:

Head Coach Raheem Morris made that announcement on Wednesday afternoon following a 65-minute practice at One Buccaneer Place. As this is the Buccaneers' bye week, the team will have a little extra time to get Freeman ready for his starting debut against the Green Bay Packers on November 8.

"He's going to go out there and it's going to help him," said Morris. "He'll get better. He has his center back in Jeff Faine. Some of these offensive linemen are healthy. Antonio Bryant's starting to get healthier and healthier. His running backs are coming along. You've got Derrick Ward, you've got Earnest at quarterback, you've got Cadillac; it's time for those guys to step up. We went through the growing pains of the 0-7; now it's time for him to come in there and join his team and lead us."

haha, thats funny, he waits for their record to be 0-7 and now he wants the team to be led, too interesting

Problem is Josh Freeman isn't even close to Mark Sanchez's level.

It depends on who you ask. But the QB spot isnt the big problem Josh Johnson has talent. That team just stinks!

Firing your offensive coordinator was the best the move.

Well, they might as well find out now what you have in the kid. Put the kid in and make him learn behind that decent, young o-line.

The learnign curve is going to be very rough, though. Freeman was very raw at Kansas State.

Yeah, I'm glad that they made the move since Josh hasn't been playing very well, and me being a BIG skeptic of Freeman, I'm looking forward to him finally getting on the field. I don't think he's going to pan out, but I'd much rather see what he's got then just take what looks like an inevitable 0-16 season.

Re: Freeman named starter

At this point in the season, there isn't a wrong move at the QB position. If Morris and the Bucs believe that this kid is the future this is the perfect time to start him. He will have 2 week to study film and pick up on the tendancies of the Packers, plus being able to watch them live the week before will help.

He should at the very least be completely comfortable with the first 15 scripted plays they run to open that game. I think that it will be more telling what happens the next week when he only has 4 days to prepare for the next team.
