Re: Was Tony Dungy Overrated?

I'm not a fan of Tony Dungy. I've got a major mancrush on Marty Schottenheimer at the moment and feel he's just as deserving a candidate for the Hall of Fame as Dungy. For one, Marty rebuilt multiple teams. I'll give Dungy credit for building Tampa Bay into a respectable franchise, but Marty went to the Browns, Redskins, Chargers, and Chiefs and improved every single one of them. Sorta off topic, but Marty For Hall of Fame.

Dungy really didn't do much in Indianapolis. Their problems prior to Dungy were on defense. Nearly a decade later, their defense has still routinely lost them winnable playoff games. If Dungy were the supposed defensive genius he has been billed to be, the Colts would have been a dynasty. Great QB+Innovate Defensive Minded Coach should=multiple championships. Dungy walked into an ideal situation and ultimately was a disappointment. At the end of the day, was Dungy really just a better version of Brian Billick?

I'm saying people act as if Manning IS the coach. That he could go out the run the show by himself without the help of his coaches/players. That he could be the head coach and the QB of the Colts. You think he could actually do that? Come on. lol. He's not god.

He basically calls the plays.

I'm not sure how good he'd be a player/head coach, but he certainly makes the job his coaches do a hell of a lot easier.

He's already the offensive coach.

Their "OC" said in an interview that he only communicates "suggestions" to Manning in the huddle and that Manning draws up and calls all of the plays.

Agreed. The myth of Manning "running the whole show" grows each and every season, especially when the Colts are having a great season (like this one).

Re: Was Tony Dungy Overrated?

If you think Manning dont need his O.C. check his interview when he thought that Tom Moore was going retire. Im sure Manning has a great deal of input in the playcalling but to say a QB would be successful in todays game without an O.C. is crazy.

Re: Was Tony Dungy Overrated?

Dungy was a good coach that won a Super Bowl.

He turned around the Buc franchise. He was able to go to an offensive colts team and build a defense that was able to win a super bowl and all his players respected him as a man and a coach.

He was also the first African American coach to win a Super Bowl and Dungy did ii with style and grace.

What else would you want from a head coach.
