No. His fall was not getting surgery until 8 months after the injury, after trying to play on it, and then coming back too early. If he would have had the surgery in January, after he was originally hurt, he may have been back in the middle of the 2008 season.

true, but he delayed the surgery because he wanted to play.

I read a little something where a scout said he moved around like he was 35 years old. The strength was there but the legs were gone.

I saw the headline yesterday and thought... greeeeaaat. He's been dealing with a calf injury, and now it's another leg issue. But if I'm not mistaken, it's the other leg this time (ankle was being checked, the article said). I'm not sure which leg he had trouble with 2 years ago that forced him to miss the season, but hopefully that's not involved. I always hold out hope that guys with injuries like this can come back and be effective because we've seen guys come back and play well from devastating injuries (see: Correll Buckhalter. Dude walks with a limp), but it's tough not to count him out now. But like we said when this was announced, low risk, high reward. So it sucks that it may not work out, but it's not like we're losing something either. We never had him at his peak.

I'm a diehard Chargers fan but even when Merriman was successful I just didn't like him that much. I've always wanted to see him go and this was welcome news, Antwan Applewhite is doing fine and Larry English still has promise.
