Giants' DL played awesome, but let's not act like Eli wasn't at the top of his game down the stretch and in the playoffs, he was fantastic.

Last few SB winners, Rodgers, Brees, Mannings, Roethlisberger, etc.

Each of those teams had a defense behind them that kept them in it? Especially Eli??? 20 of the last 21 superbowl winners have given up less than 28 points, 13 giving up less than 20.

In the superbowl, where presummably the two best teams are playing, the one with the better defensive performance will win ie defense wins championships. I dont think that is outrageous to say.

Re: ReDraft

But it's outrageous to say that Defense plays a role in winning Championships nowadays? Really?

I mean if you want to be technical, then yes Defense does win Championships because the point of Football is to stop the opposing team from scoring on you or at least score more points than them.

But Look at Rodgers, Brees and Peyton as they each had to SCORE points for them to win while their Defenses did enough to not **** up. Hell, even Big Ben had to bail out his Defense against Arizona after Fitzgerald caught that TD pass late in the game.

This is exactly right, and here's why in one graph:

Re: ReDraft

You called it hyperbole. Defense wins championships.

Bree's Defense held Peyton Manning to 17 points. and Scored 7 off of a Peyton forced mistake.

Peyton's Defense held Grossman's Bear's O to 17

Rodger's Defense forced Ben into many mistakes and scored off of them...

And even in the Ari Pitt game, holding Ari to 16 points up until the Fitz moment was significant. Ari lit up everybody else that season (unless my memory fails me). That same game, the Cards refused to sack Big Ben which allowed him to make plays where otherwise he would be on the ground.

The team with the better performing D won each of these games.

Re: ReDraft

It does win Championships, but you don't have to have the top defense like the Ravens/Steelers,etc to win.

You just have to have a couple of guys that will makes plays, mainly these days turnovers

I agree. I only said defense wins championships. I hope noone assumed I meant only the top 5 defensive teams can win. Not the case.

As Chris said, you need good players that can force turnovers. And If I were making a fantasy team, I would be sure to collect guys on a defense that can stop the run, stop the pass, and get the ball back. Like every team wants their defense to do.

You dont need the 85 bears to win.

It's the samething he said basically except I said switch out mediocre with average or above average.

But again, that's my bad because I should've been more specific.

But if we want to be technical, then let's take off those MVPs and give them to the Defenses. But I'll drop so it doesn't continue to take the thread further OT than what it is.

Re: ReDraft

Defense is very important. There is no doubt in my mind that if the Patriot's defense was half as good as their offense they would be undefeated.
