That's vastly different from a player holding out from playing under the tag. The Steelers can't do anything at this point with regards to negotiating his contract so they have zero control of making him happy. Bell is intentionally losing money to make a point since there is nothing the Steelers can do at this point to make him happy.

Right now he's holding out on his own accord (perfectly fine by me) but you can't compare this to someone holding out under contract.

They are very different situations.
Specifically, no they're not the same. But the premise is the same. Both players wanted more money. Bell only received the franchise tag because he wouldn't sign an extension. Johnson signed his extension.

Once the extension to sign Bell passed, the Steelers had no leverage. The Cardinals could have traded Johnson at any time.

That's a pretty big difference to me, one team could trade and get something back, the other has no options.

To clarify, I DO understand that the Steelers can trade him, but with the other team not being able to negotiate a contract until next season, that seems pretty far fetched and unrealistic for the return they would want.

Bell is just longer in the timeline of contract negotiations and holding out. David Johnson could have gone the same route down the road. He decided to sign now, instead. That's the difference. Had Bell signed 2 years ago, he would've done what Johnson did now.

I mean, I don't disagree but I don't really see how that's relevant today?

This could have been resolved two months ago but wasn't, I wasn't talking about anything that happened in the past.

Well that's where these two situations are similar. So you're just talking about something different than the original post was referencing.

Huh?

This was the original post I responded to:

Meanwhile, while the whine flows in Pittsburgh, David Johnson comes in and signs an entirely reasonable, 3 year 39 million dollar contract with 30 mil guaranteed.

Good for him and good for the Cardinals.
I simply said they aren't comparable situations and as you laid out in your last post, they literally aren't. Nothing in this OP references anything specific.

That was my only point. I never brought up injuries or anything about that at all.

I guess you have to infer or read between the lines. The situations are comparable in that they both wanted more money and held out/threatened to. From there, they deviate where Bell continues to hold out while Johnson signed an extension.

If you're looking at it 100% literally and only at this exact point in time, then you're correct. If you're looking at it on a bigger scale, the similarities are pretty obvious.
