Re: NHL 2019 Offseason Thread

One positive could be that Holland has the clout to take a complete wrecking ball to the organization. One of the biggest problems with the Oilers aside from the revolving door at coach/GM is the rest of the FO around it. I'd be afraid that a new, modern GM would get absorbed by the culture already in place and end up being a bust.

Re: NHL 2019 Offseason Thread

There was a rumored Connor Brown to Oilers rumor at deadline. Makes too much sense for it to not happen in offseason. Brown for Benning was the rumor.

Leafs need to fit guys under the cap, Brown as a 3rd line guy makes 2.1M.

Brown had over 125 points playing with McDavid in 14/15.

Benning is a RHD who has over 100 hits every year he plays and has good puck posession numbers.

Deal a 3rd line forward to a team where he could break out playing with his old superstar linemate. In exchange we see a 3rd line dman go to a team who needs a guy like him badly and he probably ends up on their 2nd line.

Re: NHL 2019 Offseason Thread

So Kenny Holland is going to be named new GM of the Oilers. This could either go over really well or be yet another failed move by the Oilers. I feel like for the last few years that Holland hasn't been nearly as sharp with current trends in the NHL and that he's mostly been coasting on reputation. Some of that may be the fact that he's been in Detroit since uh, 1983 I think.

A new environment and people to work with might re-invigorate Holland and maybe, just maybe he can lay the foundation for Edmonton for the future.

Re: NHL 2019 Offseason Thread

This is good for Detroit, as it mean Yzerman is in full control.

Rumor has it that Holland is going to bring Dave Tippett in as the coach. If so, this is shades of Lou, Dubas, Trotz, Toronto and Islanders.

Yep, he joined Detroit in 1983 as AHL goalie depth. After the 1984-85 season, he moved upstairs as a scout. He climbed the ranks since then and took over as GM after Detroit won the cup in 1997.

Ill catch some crap for this by fellow Wings fans, but... good riddance. Guy was always over valued here imo. Never seen him as the reason we won here. It was the open check book and imo, Bowman and Nill were the brains behind the operation. Since both Bowman and Nill left, Hollands done jack. Good luck Oilers. Get ready for that 8 year Lucic extension coming soon lol maybe he'll take Howard, Helm and Ericsson with him

Not if those people include Lowe and MacTavish.

The one hope for Oilers' fans is that Holland has the authority to clean out these bums and their cohorts. That way, even if Holland doesn't succeed at turning the team into a contender, at least he eliminated the root cause of the Oilers' problems. Getting rid of those guys might even be a way for Holland to get the fans on his side and buy some time early in regime.

Oilers owner Darryl Katz has a life threatening illness. This was confirmed by the team today after media speculation about his health when he was at the Holland presser.
