No, you do not need to purchase any items. There is a description of what is needed in game to unlock each piece of equipment...

I hope EA somehow fixes this soon. I have been finding myself playing other games instead of NHL now, because this has really frustrated me in EASHL. Good to know that EA is aware of it.

After you mark the beginning and end of your highlight with the X button, you can use the Y button for advanced editing. The filter and speed is in there.

I would think your player increases skills from the single player Be a Pro mode. I dont think players rank up online, only team standings/rankings.

I do tap the A button when trying to tackle. It seems to help me make tackles, so I would guess this feature is the same from 2k5.

My friends system was dropping out of online games with "network error" message all the time. He needed to delete his created players, and it worked fine afterwards.

Do you have an HDTV? If you do, then that would be a good reason to upgrade to 360. If not, then you will not get the full advantage of the next generation.

I seem to mostly use the right analog stick for jukes while running. I get some cool spins by flicking left or right when about to be tackled. Give that a try.
